While I understand your point, honeyed words are going to have the opposite effect these days. People need to understand that if they want effective change enacted, they're going to have to fight for it. It is going to be very uncomfortable, but it is necessary.

I said people should cancel their Nitro, and I encourage it. But don't expect that's going to be nearly enough because it's not.

I encourage everyone who does not rely on Nitro for some sort of business reason to cancel their subs, I'm just highly skeptical in this particular case that it will work, for it's not just a stupid decision on Discord's part. They are being forced to do this, and many other services will follow.

Thus, it's not enough for people to just be mad at Discord. It's not enough for people to just be calling and complaining. People need to start taking hard action against all business and government entities that are adding these pressures throughout the world - most of them being in the US.

Discord is being pressured to do these things because of lawmakers and payment processors forcing them to do so. It's not just a stupid decision on their part, if they don't comply the lawmakers and processors could hammer them for millions in charges or possibly even arrest them.

I am just one person. Imagine the change 1 million or more of us could enact if we stood up to these crooked bullies like this. We are far more powerful than they are.

In the end, for this particular matter, I did not pursue the $68k out of fairness; however, I did end up getting the executive on the phone most surrounding management fired, and having the program suspended and overhauled for others.

I wasn’t as forgiving with another entity, who lost $80k to me.

Instead of having to pay the $3,000 or so they demanded of me, they now owed me and everyone else in my program $68,000 each.

The panic and fear in the voice over the line was palpable.

They went from dismissive and arrogant to begging and pleading with me to not be hasty. Their voice trembled.

As they were about to hang up on me, I played my cards. I offered to play nice. I offered to pay what I felt I owed. They did not accept, so I played their game. I stated a violation of the contract on their part, rendering my part of the contract null and void.

I did not owe them, they owed me.

I spent over an hour on the phone with this entity. In my mind, I felt the entity under-served me and was not deserving of the amount owed.

The entity, arrogant as they were, continued to hammer what I owed for the contract. They told me absolutely nothing I could say or do would change this.

I haven’t talked about this much but I have had several notable instances of dealing with crooked people and businesses like this personally.

Let me describe for you how it feels. In one case, one entity repeatedly pressured me to pay them, citing the contract I had agreed to.

Collective, drastic, non-violent action must be made. General strikes, protests, workplace sabotage, refusing to pay off credit, refusing to pay taxes, whatever. Bring the economy to a halt if you want to enact true change and hit these crooked conmen where it hurts.

Their pockets.

It’s becoming increasingly evident that these institutions that are supposed to serve the public are corrupt. These criminals do not follow the rules, and they don’t pay their taxes. They continue to abuse their power and assert control on those they deem powerless.

The Discord issue is definitely concerning and I don’t blame people for “voting with their wallet” and dumping Nitro. As you should. But it won’t work.

Every Nitro sub could cancel and Discord will still continue with this. Users must take stronger action against the lawmakers/banks enforcing this.
