I started telling people if it was so easy go do it yourself.

As promised, here's my solution.
I started with three 16-sided prims and just bridged them together. Took ~10 mins.
Other people solved the sphere transition better than I did though! I also could have been cleaner with some of the loops.
Favorite results in comments.
A very useful tool in the toolbox.
Have you tried out the marmoset bevel shader? While I still sometimes use zbrush I've grown to really like baking with the bevel shader. It can be a big time saver.
