Native American World War II Veteran, Final Member of Unit, Dies at 101 Gilbert "Choc" Charleston, who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was the last remaining member of the 739th Tank Battalion, died on Thanksgiving at 101 years old.

Bill would allow Medal of Honor consideration for Navy pilot who downed 4 Soviet fighter jets during Korean War Royce Williams, who was in a secretive dogfight with Russian fighter planes, would be eligible for the Medal of Honor upon the passage of the NDAA.

On Nov 18, 1952, Williams was piloting an F9F when he encountered seven Soviet MiG-15s. Williams shot down four of the fighters. Williams battled the Russian pilots for 35 minutes, making the encounter the longest dogfight in US military history. www.stripes.com/veterans/202...

In June, two Eisenhower Presidential Library colleagues & I attended Wichita funeral of Lt. H.G. Tennyson. His B-24 Liberator shot down in Papua New Guinea in 1944. Plane just found in 2017; his remains ID’d in 2024. This thank you note just came from his family members.

Crews found the little one wedged tight near the rear spare tire area. With patience, teamwork, and a whole lot of care, firefighters safely freed the frightened kitten. 🧤🐱

#OTD in 1941, men across the country lined up to volunteer for military service following the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Navy ordered all recruiting stations to stay open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These men enlisting in the Navy in Boston look ready to fight.

84th anniversary of Pearl Harbor’s attack commemorated without survivors | Honolulu Star-Advertiser Veterans, dignitaries and community members gathered at Pearl Harbor today to mark the 84th anniversary of the surprise attack that pulled the United States into World War II.

This year is the first time no survivors of the Dec 7, 1941 attack were present for the commemoration. Ira Schab, a 105-year-old veteran from Oregon, was expected to attend, but bowed out due to health concerns. Schab is the oldest of the 12 known remaining.

Today we remember the thousands of Americans who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor 84 years ago. Nearly half of those lost were aboard the USS Arizona, and I remember what a moving experience it was when Gabby and I visited the memorial. We’ll never forget their sacrifice.
