I’ve realized if I’m experimenting with weird techniques/styles I default to painting Tartarus, because if it sucks I’m fine with it because I don’t respect him

GenCon is happening and I need y’all to experience all the Ultraman stuff for me in my place like meeting the Ultras and the card game and getting photos with the Ultras and the card game and crying in a corner because Omega is so beautiful in person and the card game!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Fun fact, I got to display the drawing paper at my booth at Kaiju Brooklyn this year, where the card was first unveiled!

So Tsubpro straight-up offered me “hey wanna share the entire process for your playing card?” So starting at the very beginning, this is the first concept sketch I ever did for the Ultraman Z card!

the coloring part was all on one layer, the sketch was separate but the painting was all one

MAN ultra is so good…I love how hard they’re leaning into “Hope despite knowing how faulty/fallen humans are, reaching for goodness despite how broken we might be.”
That’s always been my favorite part of Ultra. And goodness know we need some hope to hold on to this year.

And yes I saw this and went “ultraman”

I actually rarely listen to toku podcasts (or many fandom podcasts overall, tbh 😅); I’m mostly interested in character studies/lore/deep-dives overall, and most toku podcasts I’ve found are like book clubs/reviews, which is great! Just not for me

And I’m too sporadic to be a good podcaster 😅
