"So your IP can't be used to geolocate you, since your traffic runs through the VPN."

True; VPN = privacy, via diversion.

"[...] Web browser and many phone apps [...]"

True. Non-VPN applications *can* (note the "many" above) dispense with privacy.

Yes, music in the head all the time.

Sometimes it's something I don't want to "hear". MotΓΆrhead's "Shine" is a good displacement tune.

Voted. Grocery store. One hour wait to get to a machine. Shopped for groceries afterward. Lost my "I voted" sticker, so no photo.

In the early 1990s I used the Detroit Public Library system to get a job in Austin. Checked out books on writing resumes and cover letters, and used library fax machines to send said resumes.

It's bad. I've about a couple decades on that 52-year-old, and IMHO 2026 racism is easily 1960s-level.

White people I know who understand are those married into minority families. When one talks about it, other white people don't believe him. The (dis)belief is too powerful.

Sleepy owl found resting among items on a New York antique store shelf Shoppers in upstate New York month turned up a rare find while perusing a local antique store this month: a live owl resting peacefully among items on a shelf.

Hoo, that was fun. apnews.com/article/owl-...

Those mentioned in the Epstein files who are quitting their jobs must have been pretty deep in the wrong thing.

I'd imagine they're preparing to vanish before the rest of the world finds the depth of their depravity.

Years ago I had beet soup, made by a Polish landlady from Russia. The beets came from the grocery store, in cans. It was one of the most delicious things I've tasted.

That is amusing. There were zero comic shops when I was a kid. By the time they started, I was drinking age, and the people who ran the shops would reminisce with me about spinner racks in mom-and-pop stores.

Nowadays, the shops mystify me. It's amusement all around.

t-shirt: MEXICAN not Latino/Hispanic

The people I know (I live in Texas) who self-refer as Mexican, LatinX (*), or Hispanic (*) and are American citizens do not think of themselves as White.

* The term "Hispanic" appears to be like "Negro", which I use in half-jest when I watch old TV shows and movies. Check this t-shirt.

About $16 for two pounds of standard co-op hamburger. So, around $5.50 per homemade half-pound-of-meat cheeseburger, the way I make them.

I've been asking friends how much a fast-food burger (meal) costs. Around $15.00 USD, they say.

I thought burger'd be about $10/lb now, Feb2026. Lucky.

Investors toss another $30B atop the Anthropic money furnace : $380B valuation for a company that's yet to turn a profit? Sure, why not

Love this headline. www.theregister.com/2026/02/13/a...
"The figures offer insight into the mentality of investors in AI platforms. Anthropic, like its rival OpenAI, has yet to turn a profit, although there are hopes that it will do so any moment now."

Tyndale paid heavily for starting that work. Alas, he's not famed for it, and his descendants aren't getting paid
