I do wish a little more time was spent on the online safty act although I don’t think the consequences of that legislation had been fully realised at the time of publication. Thank you to everyone who recommended this to me!

Absolute must read given the recent rise of AI. Despite feeling more pessimistic than the author I loved her account here, particularly how wide reaching it was. The amount of examples across both geographic contexts and the contexts in which AI is applied was great.

A few years ago if a sci-fi book was pitched as “those with power love AI more than they tolerate trans people” I would have thought it was far fetched…yet here we are 🤷‍♂️🙃

Also creating the mind map is the fun part why would you want the AI doing that?…admitedly my concept of fun might differ slightly here but still. The notion of just reading mind maps sounds dead dull to me & wouldn’t help me retain anything.

Just got an add for an AI that “helps” students study by creating mind maps of resources for them. A particuarly blatant examples of folk forgetting the process is the point. Creating the mind map is how you engage with & remeber the content. Reading it alone isn’t nearly as effective 🙃

UK politicians have sent condolences. Promoting empathy for someone that spewed hate while your complicit in the murder of kids is obscene.

Everyone will talk about this bigot more than any school shooting victim or Palestinians facing genocide. He had a family? Yes everyone has people that will mourn them. This doesn’t make him special and it does not negate the harm he caused.

…it’s giving early career yoda + the stressed academic version of live, laugh , love. Need to slap it on a pillow 🙃😂

The fact my bedtime reading has led to such a tangent gives an idea of how busy my head is lately and how much of a nerd I am about the census😂

The stats here are also being used to demonstrate the extent of human rights violations. So really the specific number doesn’t matter since even one person’s rights being violated is one too many. Where stats can help is in identifying where issues occurs & informing ways to address them.

I didn’t pick up this book for a quantative account so it doesn’t matter but it does irk me that folk will probably cite this not realising.Though on the other hand, she rightfully points out all the stats she cites are undercounts which are already out of date so maybe it doesn’t matter.

I don’t know if she has combined the data from all three censues, is only using the 2021 data or only using the 2021 data from England & Wales (recon it’s the last one + accidentally adding in some other data from a much more resent report)

Reading a non-fiction book I’m otherwise enjoying but the author keeps referring to the 2021 UK census. Scotland’s census was in 2022 & I’m fairly sure she has misattributed some of the stats she is using to the censuses. Finding it very distracting 🙃

Finally started catching up on Doctor Who. Enjoying it despite the fact I already know two big spoilers. Love the anti AI sentiment at the start & Belinda is dead cool so far!
