Political cartoon published in Mexican local newspaper "El Informador" in 1992. Titled "mieditis" or "fearitis," it portrays three ghosts running: Canadian unemployment, US unemployment, and Mexican unemployment. Mexican unemployment is the fastest, at the front, looking back at the other two and saying, "don't be scared!" The cartoon is drawn in black ink on a white background.
Political cartoon published in Mexican local newspaper "El Informador" in 1992. It shows a person's head labeled 'insecurity'. The head is cut open at the top to show what's inside: a bottle labeled 'alcohol,' a syringe labeled 'drugs,' a sack labeled 'corruption,' a TV screen labeled 'violence,' a gun labeled 'vagrancy.' There is a speech bubble pointing at the person: "God… what is God?" The cartoon is made in black ink on a white background.
Anyway, a couple of gifts for you, from my halfway-optimized process: a cartoon on fears of unemployment from NAFTA times, and one on the social perils of the 90s.

Researcher high: finding the right keyword a couple of hours in and watching the relevant results finally flow. AI couldn't even.
(That said, there *is* some computation enabling this. I thank the technologists and archivists that lined things up with good scans, OCR, databases, web interfaces.)

The Center for the sociology of innovation learned with great sadness that Michel Callon has passed away.
A graduate of the École des Mines, Michel joined the center in the late 1960s and was its director from 1982 to 1994.

It’s not unrelated that Spotify’s CEO just raised hundreds of millions for an autonomous military drones company. The digital exploitation—> surveillance as solution to moral panic —> AI war profiteer pipeline is fairly direct.

We're all thinking of those dying of hunger as we eat every meal, right? We all think of the life-saving power our snack would have. It's all my friends (from anywhere) talk about on Instagram.
