First one was great, though it kind of descended into a drunken goth committee meeting.

Are you coming to the World Goth Day event at the museum in 23 May?

And that’s why it’s so dangerous. It’s subtle, but you don’t need to alter all that much to make the supposed β€˜good old days’ actually seem preferable to some. I’m finding it quite terrifying.

The village I grew up in has been taken over by AI. It has a Facebook group, and the admin is obsessed with posting AI recreations of its past. The traditionalists love it, because the past is presented in airbrushed way, reinforcing their view that the past is always better.

Sold my camera.
Now don’t have a camera.
Looking at buying a camera.
Shame the one I sold isn’t for sale.

If you saw it as a piece of sci-fi art back in 1987, you'd drop your socks.

There’s someone working on the train and they’re using a second screen.

That’s Leeds Art Gallery now restocked with Leeds golden owls, alongside Choose Leeds badges. A nice chance to check out the amazing Burmantofts tiles and an Atkinson Grimshaw of Leeds Bridge.

Details of the next Leeds World Goth Day should be coming soon too. It’s going to be quite something.

Hadn’t occurred to me before that this would have been a modern take on a fourth tower. A similar scale. As it turned out, the 20-storey Candle House, built in the late 00s, ended up serving that purpose.

A visualisation of how the Anthony Gormley Brick Man in Leeds might have looked.

A visualisation of how the Anthony Gormley Brick Man in Leeds might have looked.

Truth is, the Anthony Gormley Brick Man sculpture we nearly had (killed off in 1988) would probably have been about half the height of this. At the time, the only tallish buildings anywhere near would have been the three ornate brick towers from the old pin factory (now pretty obscured).

Reminds me of two support calls my brother took working for a very niche early-nineties PC manufacturer in Leeds: Ade Edmondson and Uri Geller.

Spoke to Jonny Greenwood on the phone at work. Didn't realise it was him until after the call. Good thing too, or I'd have gone to pieces and undoubtedly made an absolute tit of myself.

Plus, I’ll be exploring β€˜The Leeds Love Decade’ and rave in the city more generally. There’s also the 30th anniversary of when @bbcradio1bot.bsky.social came to Leeds at the height of Britpop - potentially the least Britpop place in the country bands-wise - but we certainly had Brighton Beach.

Have a July date for a Leeds Goth talk at the art gallery to share soon, if anyone fancies it?

Obvs, the Ginnel badge arrives first though. Can’t wait to see (and wear) the word β€˜ginnel’ spelled out in beautifully polished black metal and white enamel. 2-3 weeks.

Getting near to creating some black print on black paper stock Leeds Goth and/or Choose Goth prints. A bit obsessed with paper right now. Black foil is potentially in the mix too (now I know it exists). Will share more well before World #Goth Day.
