The village I grew up in has been taken over by AI. It has a Facebook group, and the admin is obsessed with posting AI recreations of its past. The traditionalists love it, because the past is presented in airbrushed way, reinforcing their view that the past is always better.

Hadn’t occurred to me before that this would have been a modern take on a fourth tower. A similar scale. As it turned out, the 20-storey Candle House, built in the late 00s, ended up serving that purpose.

Truth is, the Anthony Gormley Brick Man sculpture we nearly had (killed off in 1988) would probably have been about half the height of this. At the time, the only tallish buildings anywhere near would have been the three ornate brick towers from the old pin factory (now pretty obscured).

Reminds me of two support calls my brother took working for a very niche early-nineties PC manufacturer in Leeds: Ade Edmondson and Uri Geller.

Spoke to Jonny Greenwood on the phone at work. Didn't realise it was him until after the call. Good thing too, or I'd have gone to pieces and undoubtedly made an absolute tit of myself.

Plus, I’ll be exploring ‘The Leeds Love Decade’ and rave in the city more generally. There’s also the 30th anniversary of when @bbcradio1bot.bsky.social came to Leeds at the height of Britpop - potentially the least Britpop place in the country bands-wise - but we certainly had Brighton Beach.
