I find that even within the US, people who live on the east coast often don't have a sense of scale of the west coast. "Oh, you're in Los Angeles? I'll be in Sacramento soon, I'll swing by for a visit!" No you won't.

I think people in the US have very "provincial" perspectives of travel distances.

I have made repeated "weekend" trips to Montreal from Toronto. That is 6 hours by car each way.

The drive from LA to Sacramento is 6 hours.
