Other paper-writing realities include:

β€œThe most important element of a paper is the titleβ€”think of the ratio of the number of titles you read to the number of papers you read.”

β€œThe abstract is, for most readers, the only part of the paper that will be read.”

Always be wary of:
1) test > train performance
2) great accuracy predicting cognition from brain data

(okay, #2 is less strict, but we do tend to see modest performance predicting cognitive scores in humans)

Brenda Milner just turned 107. Happy birthday!
On my very first day as a PI at the MNI, she was right in front of me in the cafeteria line.
She was already nearly 100, and still coming to work.
What a legend.

Oh wow...everything old really is new again.

In the early days of search engines (think HotBot, Alta Vista, Ask Jeeves etc), website developers would often trick them into giving their sites higher rankings by adding a bunch of key words/phrases into the site as white text on a white background.

This remains an incredible case of red state Attorney Generals preferring loyalty to Trump over the material outcomes of their citizens. Trump illegally cut off resources to their universities and state economies and they were fine with it.

It might not be immediately apparent to someone who's not faculty working full-time in a specific research area, but there's a huge amount of junk out there that looks very similar to quality research. LLMs struggle to avoid it. It gums up the results for Elicit, Consensus, etc.
