The weekend brought the first widespread rainfall the island has seen in a while; highest amounts occurred over western and southwestern areas. #nlwx

Also if it stays above zero through the night, will influence if things harden back up or not

Backyard Science! πŸ€“

Took a full core sample of snowpack in #GanderWest before pending thaw.

Avg depth 104 cm has yielded 279.1 mm water equivalent. Also some ice underneath that couldn't be cored (maybe another 30-50 mm worth of water).

Most should end up in the ground in the coming weeks! #nlwx

Picked up 6 cm of fresh snowfall in #GanderWest (5 mm water equivalent) today. Not huge, but at this point every addition leaves a mark. #nlwx

Crisp air and blue skies to start March 3; low -14.6Β°C overnight in #GanderWest.

Snowbanks not going anywhere yet, with cold air looking to stay dominant this week. A brief rise to near 0Β°C Wed looks like the one exception, but will be accompanied by a fresh 5-10 cm of snow. #nlwx

February's snow in the rearview.

While record-breaking totals made headlines in the east, other parts of #NLwx told a different story: Corner Brook saw its least snowy February since 2010, and Labrador finished below normal as well. πŸ“Š All reflecting a farther-east storm track!

There was another 2.0 cm yesterday, so only needed > 1.2 today. Now a question how how much it's exceeded by?

A couple days left plus more snow coming, so good chance to also beat Dec 2000’s 173.4 cm for most in any calendar month. πŸ“ˆ #nlwx

Relatively tame event for northeastern Newfoundland, totalling 8.4 cm overnight into this morning in #GanderWest. Main issue was the blowing and drifting snow, as the snowbanks continue to grow. #nlwx

On average we see another ~180 cm after mid-February, so unless there’s a dramatic shift, we should have no trouble exceeding the seasonal normal of 443 cm. May happen soon! #nlwx
