Look here’s the thing. I have only one goal: oust the bastards. Everything else we can bicker about later.

That was a nonsense resolution with no chance of going through. I prefer real and effective work against Trump, not performative votes that do nothing. It’s a serious threat to democracy, not a game or a purity test.

Are you kidding? This has been Dan Goldman all along. I guess you didn’t notice until he was he was primaried, but he has been one of the strongest prosecutorial voices all along (go watch the impeachments). Which is why it seemed absurd to primary him.

So this is how you represent the Yankees? With divisive trolling on social media?

I stand, as always, with the people of Iran, against the brutal murdering dictators. It is hard to be hopeful, in the midst of all the violence. Reportedly at least 2,000 protestors dead. But since they won’t give up hope, how can I?

If you want to counter the ICE narrative, and your video does so, please do share it as widely as possible. Eyes need to be on it, no matter what you think of the media. Even more so if it reaches people who might have sympathy for ICE.

Happy New Year all. I have no idea what this year will bring, but a new year is a good excuse for hope. I hope the best for you, my friends, my colleagues, and the world at large. As for myself, I have a show to put on and amazing artists to work with. What better reason for hope is that?

One small light to add to a very dark few days. Some may remember that one of our shows in Rehearsal for Truth was about a Belarusian political prisoner named Maria Kasalnekava. Well the actor who did the show, Maryna Yakubovich, wrote to tell me that Maria has been freed! Some truly good news.

Rehearsals in Chicago for the Left Hand of Darkness have begun. Backstage, a shomance blooms between Estraven and Genly.

Helen Shaw is a talented critic and I am glad for her that she is getting a good job at The New York Times. I am worried that she will be relegated (as Jesse Green was) to Broadway while I think her biggest strengths lie in championing the small and more experimental work. Fingers crossed.

It was a great production that didn’t get nearly the notice it deserved.

It is appalling.

Sadly, that particularly sort of evil is very human. Just a particular brand of human.

Be loud. I don’t want to exaggerate the importance of theater, but I truly think that it is at these times where our voices as artists are most important. Here’s the small blessing in the lack of government support for the arts. Now is the time we can, we must provide a voice unafraid of censorship.
