Let me add:

The myth that we “lost an entire generation” to HIV / AIDS is deeply harmful.

Baby Boomers & elder Gen X carried much of the burden. We lost ~10% of queer men in this age range.

To say they all died functions as an excuse to ignore our living elders and aging as queer people.

And lastly,

• DO remember that an entire generation of queer people went through the trauma — for 15 years — of burying friends and loves and fearing physical touch and intimacy, and that’s why you get to live so freely now.

• DO post things so people know you are a safe, supportive space
• DO tell people to stop the shame & stigma
• DO remind others “you never know who is reading this”
• DO learn about the history of HIV
• DO learn about the science/cycles/effects of the virus

• DO have sex today — enthusiastically

It’s World AIDS Day, so:

• Stop saying “clean”
• Stop shaming *any* STIs
• Stop saying “know your status” only when it’s [-]
• Stop posting “on PrEP” on the apps when education & access are unequal
• Stop criminalizing HIV or saying people should go to jail
• Stop saying “high risk”

Lower-income people are less likely to vote than higher-income people, across racial groups - and that gap has been growing.

It’s not apathy or ignorance - for many, it’s a sense that politics is not for or about them.

I hadn’t dreamed of her since last June in the dream that made me wonder if she was okay. But then last night, I dreamed of her again. She was happy. She was talking. She was telling stories. She was smiling. She was there with us all, just like before. A gentle, loving nudge all over again. 💚

I felt her a lot in the last week of October. She seemed to be present, or at least the feeling of her presence. It was memories, habits, things she said that I hadn’t thought of in years. It was signs, symbols, reminders. It was a feeling of comforts, and gentle nudges of her lessons by example.

I thought of her often in the time since. I thought of her when I was alone on walks. I thought of her when I was drinking coffee alone. Sometimes I would smile and say, “Hi, Gramma.” It was a teary-eyed smile in quiet, thoughtful reflection in the middle of my mundane moments. Maybe she was there.

When my grandmother passed in May, I had a dream of her, in her old house (the big one), and she just walked down the stairs out of view and said nothing. I didn’t tell anyone because it seemed sad; she seemed to sigh in grief, longing, and things left to be said with each step. I kept it to myself.

Slept in. Went out for coffee and a lil something sweet. Got groceries. Ordered delivery right after (Millennial-coded). Meal prepped. Cleaned house. Went to the gym. Now watching “Wake Up Dead Man”. Papaya and a bottle of wine waiting at home.
