Watched ep 1 last night and the camera angles and β€œone thigh up” to block the bits felt very 90s Skinemax directing choices. *This* is a missing corner of Millennial nostalgia. πŸ˜‚

What was that sci fi trend to show villains as vizier-like wizards?

And then the other trend to show villains sitting on towering walls like evil sconces?

Who decided that?

Maybe it’s true that (as one person said) β€œwe lost the radicals” or as an elder once told me β€œit was all the pretty ones.” But don’t say we lost a generation if you don’t know any of them.

Did you know:

Housing and social connections are fundamental to quality and quantity of life when it comes to HIV/AIDS?

Yes, housing policy and social spaces are critical public health measures for the queer community.

β€œWe tried to do what they want but they just keep shifting the goal post and the narrative to save their own asses.”

Sound familiar?

Now you understand what identity is β€” every identity category β€” and how it is defined by and will always serve the power hierarchy in charge.

None of this is new…

Let me add:

The myth that we β€œlost an entire generation” to HIV / AIDS is deeply harmful.

Baby Boomers & elder Gen X carried much of the burden. We lost ~10% of queer men in this age range.

To say they all died functions as an excuse to ignore our living elders and aging as queer people.

And lastly,

β€’ DO remember that an entire generation of queer people went through the trauma β€” for 15 years β€” of burying friends and loves and fearing physical touch and intimacy, and that’s why you get to live so freely now.

It’s World AIDS Day, so:

β€’ Stop saying β€œclean”
β€’ Stop shaming *any* STIs
β€’ Stop saying β€œknow your status” only when it’s [-]
β€’ Stop posting β€œon PrEP” on the apps when education & access are unequal
β€’ Stop criminalizing HIV or saying people should go to jail
β€’ Stop saying β€œhigh risk”

Chart with Turnout on the Y axis & election year (2016, 2020, and 2024) on the X axis. 6 lines, 3 for White, Black, and Hispanic in households making over $100k/year, 3 for the same groups in households making under $30k/year.

Overall you can see turnout increasing among higher-income people in all three racial groups, and declining (White and Black) or staying flat (Hispanic) among low-income people; the turnout gap by income is much larger in 2024 than in 2020 or 2016.

from 2016 -> 2024:
- White $100k turnout goes from 65% to 78% while white under $30k turnout goes from 55% to 49%
- Black over $100k turnout goes from 51% to 64% while Black under $30k turnout goes from 48% to 33%
- Hispanic over $100k turnout goes from 52% to 67% while Hispanic under $30k turnout stays flat at about 36% (higher in 2020 at 42%).

Lower-income people are less likely to vote than higher-income people, across racial groups - and that gap has been growing.

That’s a real problem for the future of US democracy.

It’s not apathy or ignorance - for many, it’s a sense that politics is not for or about them.

I hadn’t dreamed of her since last June in the dream that made me wonder if she was okay. But then last night, I dreamed of her again. She was happy. She was talking. She was telling stories. She was smiling. She was there with us all, just like before. A gentle, loving nudge all over again. πŸ’š

I felt her a lot in the last week of October. She seemed to be present, or at least the feeling of her presence. It was memories, habits, things she said that I hadn’t thought of in years. It was signs, symbols, reminders. It was a feeling of comforts, and gentle nudges of her lessons by example.

I thought of her often in the time since. I thought of her when I was alone on walks. I thought of her when I was drinking coffee alone. Sometimes I would smile and say, β€œHi, Gramma.” It was a teary-eyed smile in quiet, thoughtful reflection in the middle of my mundane moments. Maybe she was there.

When my grandmother passed in May, I had a dream of her, in her old house (the big one), and she just walked down the stairs out of view and said nothing. I didn’t tell anyone because it seemed sad; she seemed to sigh in grief, longing, and things left to be said with each step. I kept it to myself.

There are two things I can say about that dry-ass, unseasoned Thanksgiving spread:

1) They want to be adored for their cultural output but they can’t do anything right

2) The flowers look like the most edible think on the table

Bonus: They think labor deserves praise; work is their virtue.
