It is the only organisation of its kind that I know of that is all about the art and craft of making games, not the business. I have never seen that before, not in the UK nor in my home country Denmark.

There are lots of venues for beginners to meet these days. As a founder of the Nordic and Global Game Jams I have created some of those. I also attend indie meetups!in my community.

But because of how I work, BAFTA provides a rare opportunity for me to meet other old farts like myself.

The access to content for voting feels unique and despite being a 'club', it is a rather large club and thus quite a few of us get to vote in craft-specific categories. Again, because of its size, it does feel more democratic than other awards.

For all there is to criticise, and I have been a very vocal critic in the past, I do think BAFTA is doing a few things right

Years before Rockstar's Bully, in Italy, we had Tabboz Simulator. A free game released in 1997, it was a simple Tamagotchi-like "white trash" simulator where you could fight metalheads (and get beat up), find a girlfriend, modify your scooter, and especially buy loads of furry clothes.
