Just going to repeat my oft-said refrain: Your hopelessness helps no one, and saying it’s all over/we’re all doomed/etc just relieves us, individually and collectively, of the control we do have over our selves + future.

Currently having a Brain Episode β„’ and reserve the right to delete this post!!

But I find it very offensive when people on my feed are saying β€œhow dare you not talk about this!!!”

The people who need to hear it are not following me!

The people who follow me need to hear this:

One can but not as readily, and the only really American style subs I’ve found are mostly at Subway which is…not really representative of the art form

I’m back in the US for 6 weeks and cannot overemphasize how many cold submarine sandwiches I’m going to eat.

Hundreds. Thousands even.

I shall lay my weary bones down upon a bed of stacked meat, bread, cheese, and crunchy shredded lettuce and at last be soothed.

For ppl who aren't aware:
Old temperate forests are insanely rare nowadays and extremely important ecosystems lost forever once cut.
They're not just "old trees" but intricate networks of trees, fungi and all kinds of living creatures.
You CANNOT replant this!! Once it's gone it's lost FOREVER!!!

Emailed a few agencies to add me to their freelance rosters.

One said β€˜no way’ because I’m upfront about refusing to use AI.

TBH I dodged a bullet: So if you’re looking for writers who want to write your blog, your copy, or your ebooks/whitepapers without AI…let me know!

Cat in a Flat Cat sitter in Blackpool: Experienced cat sitter on the Northside (can also watch your sourdough starter!)

Cork city friends with cats, I’m now a cat sitter on this website and you can hire me to watch your cats (and water your plants, feed your sourdough starter, etc). I’ll be back in mid-April to take care of your creatures!

It’s a fun rabbit hole! When I was working in libraries these were starting to be talked about but not as much as now. Imagining/adapting a system to our records, rather than the other way around, feels like such a valuable exercise when thinking about stories holistically

There are plenty out there that I’m probably missing, but the Māori classification system in Wellington library, or Glasgow Women’s Library’s feminist classification system

View of Cataloguing the Empire

Explaining cataloging history + practice from the start takes more bandwidth than I have, but some resources are:

No…it means different classification systems for organizing those stories. Classification systems = things like LOC and Dewey Decimal. But folks are now thinking up other systems rooted in different organizing practices. It’s the system itself we’re looking at, not ingredients/location.

Thank you @savorpod.bsky.social friends! Also happy to answer questions if folks, say, go to the food bank and end up with a ton of carrots or something else that you aren’t sure how best to use!

Librarian friends (and adjacent archives, museums, etc folk):

I’m developing a Finding Your Food Story class that includes imagining decolonial classification systems for our own stories.

I’m looking to add to my list of examples: what are your favorites?

A friend and I were talking about Alysa Liu’s figure skating win and she said β€œthe joy she she displayed honestly reminded me a lot of you when you’re doing your work” and whew, there’s no better compliment out there.
