Is he called Liam by any chance? This sounds more like a post from @crimegirl.co.uk rather than your normal posts.

Most of my masters end up higher than the common -14LUFS level but I know that they'll still sound good when the level is reduced because I haven't pushed them beyond their limit.

I remember a Motown engineer say that they were always amazed by how good The Beatles' records sounded. And then they found out that The Beatles used Motown records as a yardstick.
For a few months, or maybe years, other people's records will sound better than yours. True perspective takes time.
I heard something similar from a colleague who left to join an F1 team as a technician. He came back to us a few months later.

28.02.2026 09:30 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I first heard it round at a friend's house on the way to school one day. Jack Dimanio and Robert Robinson gave the programme a great combination of serious discussion with humorous interludes. It became essential morning listening up until about 10 years ago when the whole of BBC news lost its way.

Taken by Aphex back in the 1980s to go with their Aural Exciter.
Huge Booty has also been taken...

which probably works on just about every major platform now that Windows has a Linux subsystem.
Oops - the Daikin unit sound power level is actually 57dB which requires a distance of 5.64m from the centre of the outdoor unit to the neighbour's property. A fence would reduce that to 3.17m.
23.02.2026 20:46 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0From looking at the Daikin specs I now see why I'm confused. The 45dB you quote is probably the sound pressure level. The number used in the calculations is the sound power level. The quietest Daikin unit that I've found so far has a sound power level of 58dB (??? but no suffix).
23.02.2026 20:46 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0And 1.5m to the centre allows you to use a 45.5dB unit.
23.02.2026 10:36 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0More than a metre to the centre of the heat pump allows you to use a 42dB unit (assuming it is ground mounted at the bottom of a wall). If you can stretch it another 20cm then you can use a 43.5dB unit. That's without needing to use a fence in between.
23.02.2026 10:31 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Our cat has a favourite space in the far corner under my son's bed. Fortunately she snores when she's asleep so I can usually tell when she's there.
23.02.2026 09:24 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0To be honest, the sound box idea sounds weird in the context of a heat pump. Who suggested it? If it was an installer then I'd be very worried about them.
23.02.2026 09:08 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I've just re-read the MCS docs. There's no need to build a box - a decent fence will gain you an extra 5dB allowance while a more substantial wall will gain 10dB. If you have a decent fence and can site the pump more than 1m away from the boundary then you'll meet the noise limit with a 47dB unit.
23.02.2026 09:08 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0If I was to use AI for coding I'd never hear the last of it from my son. If I get him interested in something then he's almost as fast at coding as AI but getting him to do what I want is the problem...
22.02.2026 12:31 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I'd agree that making something for yourself is more fun. I'd really like to learn how to train these models because I have quite a bit of source material here to train them on.
22.02.2026 11:27 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Or you could have downloaded UVR which would give you a choice of algorithms (including the one you are currently using). It will also separate the different drums.
22.02.2026 10:27 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I think we've had this discussion before - the noise level isn't a simple number. It is a calculated level that involves distance too. So a 45dB unit will comply provided it isn't too close to the property boundary.
22.02.2026 10:07 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I've been out to see live music 4 times this week. Two amazing gigs and two not so amazing but all free to get in. Probably similar next week too. There is so much good grass roots music around at the moment.

21.02.2026 10:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Mind you - those are just my thoughts. There are plenty of other ways to do things and probably many other ways yet to be discovered.
21.02.2026 09:56 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Line Audio (a small Swedish company) for SDCs and then I'd go for something expensive if you really want an LDC - there is a reason why you'll see U87s used on all kinds of things in studios. If you can't afford a U87 then use the Line Audio mics instead with a bit of eq.
