Then he messaged me again the day we filed my son’s federal lawsuit, same thing, he didn’t make it about me, but about my son and the other kids we wanted to end seclusion for. Steve got it.

I loved that he said he supported my son and acknowledged that the protests were to observe my son’s pain and suffering. Most others were acting like it was about me, warrior mom, blah blah. He saw what I was doing was a sort of daily vigil in observance of my son’s suffering and it wasn’t about me

Steve was so kind. When my son’s story dropped when I blew the whistle on our school district about his restraints & seclusions, many treated me like I’d lost it for daily protests outside our school district offices. He wrote me, said he’d heard me on NPR and wanted me to know he supported my son.

This would be the most compassionate (and efficient) (and logical) approach to helping our society.

We refuse to go back from hard fought for disability civil rights progress of the last 50 years. MAHA ableism and eugenics MUST be fought against and crushed. These are hills worth dying on, and too many have died fighting these battles to permit MAHA ableists to erase our hard work & struggles.

Believe it or not, this list of MAHA ableist harm is way incomplete. MAHA is a eugenics movement that is dangerous and dehumanizing for autistics and all disabled people. There is an even longer list of ways in which MAGA is causing grave harm to disabled people, which MAHA supports.

• Holding a press conference about autism w/no autistics seen or heard is a real bad look. Of all the people given a mic at a press conference about autism, not one autisic person was platformed. Representation matters. If your autism press conference doesn’t center autistic voices, yeah, no.

• MAHA claims they’re only listening to parents, when 4 of 5 parents of autistics know vaccines didn’t cause our child’s autism. RFK only listens to a handful of parents parroting back his lies, not listening, but dictation. He claimed 40-70% of parents of autistics agree w/him, a bald-faced lie.

• MAHA perpetually bangs on about the evils of big pharma, never mentioning the biggest issue change needed w/pharma: making meds more affordable.
• The highest per capita poverty rates are disabled people. All the cuts and controls in SNAP are infantalizing to many disabled people on SNAP.

• RFK routinely med-shames those who need medication & often talks about rehab camps to imply disabled people are junkies & that no medications are justified.

• Older MAHA & RFK insist they knew no autistics in school when they were little, when disabled people were not allowed in public schools until IDEA passed in 1975, but autistics were not IEP eligible until 1991. Before that, we were either in segregated residential or day institution, or home.

• MAHA constantly insists elderly developmentally and intellectually disabled people do not exist; it's total erasure, ignoring the shameful history of abusive asylums and “ugly laws” in force in some states until 1974, barring families from bringing disabled family members in public.
