I had a lot of fun collaborating with Elizabeth and her band mates on this track, and got to record a few instruments that fall outside of my typical rock band domain.
My roles:
- Tracking engineer
- Mixing engineer
- Editor
- Drum performance
Elizabeth McCorvey is a talented artist and multi-instrumentalist with a message, and Ainโt Gonna Lay Down is about fighting the good fight.
As she arrived at the session she informed me that her drummer was sick and couldnโt make it, so the obviously I had to fill in on drums!
Different pace from sonic games for sure!

13.02.2026 14:50 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If you keep an eye out on marketplace/craigslist/etc youโll find some gems for not much money. I got both of those mics for around $100 each. I was doing shootouts and tests to figure out which mic to sell and decided to keep them all lol
13.02.2026 14:28 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I can see how a single guitar that needs to sound big would benefit from this approach
13.02.2026 01:19 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Or just compress the mids and sides separately lol
13.02.2026 01:11 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Experimenting with Mid/Side for the first time in a long while. This positioning does a nice job of capturing both the indirect sound of the room and the direct sound of the drums.
