I still loathe that Elon fucked up one of my favourite words; grok.

It took me a couple decades to separate it from the fucker who coined it too.

It's a grand word. a perfect word. It filled a necessary void - and now it's been stolen. boo.

Seven Billion Reasons for Facebook to Abandon its Face Recognition Plans Meta’s analysis that it can avoid scrutiny by releasing a privacy invasive product during a time of political crisis is craven and morally bankrupt. It is also dead wrong.

Meta thinks now is a great time to launch facial recognition surveillance tech in their creepy glasses because EFF will be too distracted by fascism to notice.

We noticed.

I’ve had many cases where my OSS was used with zero attribution, and even entire tools/designs were copied; sometimes down to the wording of the algorithm explanations.

I’m very pro-reuse, but this kind of thing honestly makes me hesitate to open-source some work. What would you do?

the edge-to-edge forced migration in Android should be a textbook example of how NOT to do it. So much effort and code required just to keep the app working.

That’s the navigation bar. Android is phasing it out in favor of the gesture bar. You can switch to gesture if it’s interfering, switch back after clearing.

Every bit of this project was an absolute delight. From researching the patent drawings, reaching out to Takara Tomy to try and find Wantanabe-san, and collaborating with photographer Jim Golden on the deconstructed Armatron shoot...I loved it all. ter.li/JKeegan (gift link)
