It's a story of love, loss and renewal, and it is charmingly written with a few added little bonuses. At the start of each monthly section, the author includes actual book recommendations.”

Post image “Skylark is the latest novel from Paula McLain, author of The Paris Wife. Skylark takes place in Paris and features a dual timeline - one set in the 1660s amid a community of fabric dyers and miners, and the other in the 1940s during the Nazi Occupation.

Beautifully written, with themes of oppression, resilience and hope, this is a wonderful novel of historical fiction. The author does a brilliant job of putting the reader into the story, and showing us that throughout history, we have always wished for a better world.”

Take your book to Broadway - these books all have musical adaptations! Read the book and then listen to the soundtrack. What's your favorite book/broadway duo?

The best mysteries are the ones you can’t put down AND that you can’t figure out what’s coming. Anatomy of an Alibi delivers on both of these, plus characters you love and love to hate, an original plot with lots of twists and turns, and a bad guy I didn’t even consider. It was a fun ride!”

Teen boys read, too! These six coming-of-age novels all feature teen male protagonists. Kirsten particularly recommends Be More Chill by Ned Vizzini, and Fat Kid Rules the World by K.L. Going.

“Award winning Spanish author Javier Moro delivers a wonderfully illuminating look at a little-known figure from the Gilded Era in New York. There was so much in this novel that I didn’t know, even though I was familiar with many of the buildings and people involved in Guastavino’s life and work. What better way to learn about a time and place than a well- researched and presented novel of historical fiction.”

Post image A Long Winter draws us into the dark emotions and grief of this family. I won’t pretend that this has a happy ending. But somehow that doesn’t seem to detract from the beauty of the journey.

If you’re a Colm Toibin fan, you will love this small book; if you’ve never read him before, this tasting will make you a believer.”

Post image The Everlasting is both beautiful and harrowing. I was continually captivated by the language and equally stressed out by the high stakes facing Owen and Una. The journey is so worth it, I loved how Harrow used second person narration in a way I had never read before. Truly one of my favorite books of the year!
