The Sound of 62 Percent of New York City Voters Chanting 'Tax the Rich' Maybe we’re going to tax the rich? And why did the NYPD commissioner hang out with someone who repeatedly demeans Muslims and Black women?

"54 percent of New York state voters, and 62 percent of New York City voters, want the governor and legislature to go along with [Mamdani's] plan to tax the rich. ...[W]ill Hochul really fight like hell against the legislature and the... mayor... to preserve the wealth of New York City's richest?"

β€œCongratulating ourselves for being tough enough to knock something down, and shortly thereafter finding ourselves totally incompetent to build its replacement” is the theme of Trump’s second administration, whether it’s the White House, federal government, Middle East, or global economy

I hope someone draws a through-line between this, the theory of change of accelerationist livestream mass shooters, the conduct of hypermediated modern warfare (eg in Ukraine, Gaza), calls to β€œbear witness” to endless gore feeds on the left, and what the imperial boomerang will really look like.

No, it’s worse.

It’s a war without a political objective.

Plenty of wars have opened without a clear plan to reconcile desired ends with available means, we may be the first country to go to war without even a basic concept of victory.

War for the memes. War for the vibes. War for the Warriors.

I do not like this gen AI
I do not like what it implies
I do not want it in my art
I do not think it makes you smart
I do not want it in my games
I do not like its goals and aims
I do not want it in my books
I do not like the way it looks
I do not like it, I don't care
I do not want it anywhere

β€œBut what about the need to teach students to be literate in AI?” In 33 yrs of journalism & 15 of teaching, I’ve learned that there are any number of lawyers, doctors, politicians, generals, & CEOsβ€”& yes β€œelite” studentsβ€”who are only semiliterate in their native tongue. Let’s worry about that.

"I asked God to forgive me, which he has."

Honestly this is the biggest perk of serving in Congress. Most people have to ask forgiveness and wonder. If you're in Congress you get a same day answer from the big guy.

I don’t think it’s insane, it’s the phones. The average person doesn’t rationalize things as statistics, they respond to things they can see and algorithmic video is full of videos of crime and unruly cities that they interpret as things getting worse because they’re seeing it more on their phones.

In Plunging Into a Mideast Conflict, Trump Gambles His Presidency

To call something a gamble implies something you can win or or at least come out ahead of where you started - but there is no such scenario here because the war has no coherent objective. Even Trump barely pretends to know what the point is.

What's scary about this story is the surveillance it hints at. This trans woman had changed her name, legally, but chose not to change her gender marker. She was apparently flagged in the DMV system as trans and her license was invalidated under a law that supposedly only concerned gender markers.

Q. In the top of our story, we talk about the rally you attended in Managua and a wire report at the time said that there were anti-American chants from the crowd.
The United States at that time - I don't know how much you know about this β€” was actively supporting the Contras to overthrow the government. So that there's anti-American sentiment? I remember that, I remember that event very clearly.
You do recall hearing those chants? I think the wire report has them saying, "Here, there, everywhere, the Yankee will die." hey were fighting against American -- Huh huh--yes, what is your point?
I wanted to β€”β€”
Are you shocked to learn that there was anti-American sentiment?
My point was I wanted to know if you had heard that.
I don't remember, no. Of course there was anti-American sentiment there. This was a war being funded by the United States against the people of Nicaragua. People were being killed in that war.
Do you think if you had heard that directly, you would have stayed at the rally?
I think Sydney, with all due respect, you don't understand a word that I'm saying.

Public pressure means something. Primaries can change policies. In NY-10, Dan Goldman has been running ads for months.
Primaried from his left by @bradlander.bsky.social, Goldman’s ads have gone from β€œAgents should have to carry ID” in January, to big bold graphics this month that say β€œAbolish ICE.”
