My hot writing take about tense and POV is stop blaming YA for why some adult romance readers are demanding first person POV. Deal with your own readers. Stop using YA as a cudgel for everything you think is wrong with adult books.

Cross-sex! Femme-presenting cis women have testosterone, and your dudeliest cis dudes have estrogen. There is no such thing as a "cross-sex" hormone.

BBC should be ashamed for warping reality to suit these goons.

Me: time to look for updates on the fire, let’s see how things are progressing

Them: stream of β€œprobably burnt it down on purpose for student accommodations”, racist shit, one really weird post positing it happened because of its position on leylines

Me: that’s enough of that

Tennessee Wants to Let Schools Ban Immigrant Kids, Threatening to β€œEnd Public Education as We Know It” A Tennessee bill would take the right to education away from undocumented children. The Heritage Foundation is pushing it in other states.

Literally everything the Heritage Foundation suggests is nauseating

β€œThe state’s proposed β€œtrigger laws,” …are direct challenges to Plyler v. Doe, a narrowly decided 1982 Supreme Court case that enshrined the right to a free K–12 public education regardless of immigration status.”

Terracotta statuette of a dog with upright, pricked ears and a fluffy upright tail. He has an oval object - supposedly meat - in his mouth, painted red. Black pigment can still be seen on his ears and the tip of his tail, in addition to some traces of red on his coat.

Every dog owner: β€˜What’s that in your mouth?? Omigod, drop it, drop it!’ 😱

This Greek (Boeotian) terracotta dog appears to have a red piece of, um, meat in its mouth. I’m sure he earned it (β€˜Hey, that dead guy over there wasn’t using this.’)

of the GFM’s i’ve seen for businesses lost in the fire, one had over Β£6k in donations in just four hours, another has had over Β£2k in 50 minutes πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’– this is something glasgow is especially good at, i even read recently that GFM said glasgow is the most charitable city in scotland - & 2nd in the UK!

btw about that pixar thing, the reason why these people think having a conversation about gay people with kids is difficult is because they don't know a way to say to their kid "gay people are normal but you are not allowed to be one" without sounding like a bigot (there is a reason for that)

It's actually profoundly similar to the way that eugenicist anti vaccine organisations worked to disrupt messaging around COVID (and previously MMR)

Too lazy to be a guide dog: how Marcus found his calling as a therapy animal
YouTube video by Guardian Australia Too lazy to be a guide dog: how Marcus found his calling as a therapy animal

It promises to be a rough week so I’m sharing one of my recent fav videos about dogs, this time about Marcus, the lab. After training to be a guide dog, they found that he was too β€˜lazy’ (lol) to be a guide dog so he now is a therapy dog for cancer patients

the funniest part of this article is when the author hits pause to be like "I personally don't read romance, I am in a book club called the Difficult Books Club where we read the Brothers Karamazov and kind of hate it." seems like the wrong person to be writing about romance and fanfic then idk

I’m just fine! So far, no injuries reported, and fingers crossed it stays that way. Luckily for me, I use the kind of secondary station; it’ll just be crowded (which can be tricky with competing access needs).

This one has been standing since 1851! Repaired over and over over the decades! I cannot imagine what all is going into people’s lungs. Also air filtration isn’t at all a common thing for older buildings surrounding.

I expect it’ll be really busy for a while! (Queen Street is my daily commute.)

It wasn’t until the LA fires that I realized that it isn’t commonly discussed!

THIS. If you’re in central Glasgow tonight please close your windows; if you have to be out please wear the best mask you have available. If you can smell it, you’re at risk.

08.03.2026 22:22 β€” πŸ‘ 682    πŸ” 382    πŸ’¬ 5    πŸ“Œ 3

It’s just wild to me that people are going β€œoh, Glasgow’s always catching fire.”

1. Not like this
2. Not a huge transport hub on which working people and students and/or disabled people rely

This is not a minor inconvenience! This is pretty devastating!

08.03.2026 22:23 β€” πŸ‘ 73    πŸ” 6    πŸ’¬ 3    πŸ“Œ 0

The other thing is accessibility. Lots of stations surrounding Central (and much of the subway) are not step-free, so people rely on the lifts at Central.

I am genuinely not looking forward to trying to get to campus tomorrow.

08.03.2026 22:21 β€” πŸ‘ 65    πŸ” 5    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

A thing that’s shocking me about the lack of coverage is air safety info. Hi, Glasgow folk, from a Southern Californian transplant: ash from old buildings is super gnarly. Please wear a respirator if you need to be near the scene.

Queen Street is still available, but it goes different places!

08.03.2026 22:18 β€” πŸ‘ 420    πŸ” 147    πŸ’¬ 4    πŸ“Œ 5

Londoners maybe don't understand how huge this is because they've got so many stations.

Glasgow has two and they're not set up to be easily interchangeable - Central goes everywhere south, Queen Street everywhere north.

The fire at Glasgow central station is utterly devastating. Shops, homes and our transport link to England are being wiped out.
I am amazed by the limited news coverage.

I reject the framing that writers must write to the tastes of the market. That’s finance people talking.

08.03.2026 20:05 β€” πŸ‘ 19    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Those readers don’t always like my writing, as is their prerogative, but they aren’t trying to demand I write to their tastes. They’re just moving on and finding others who do.

As it should be.

08.03.2026 20:02 β€” πŸ‘ 12    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

No, I won’t be bullied into writing differently. For everyone entitled enough to demand writers write specific ways because the customer is always right, there are four other quiet and thoughtful readers who aren’t starting shit.

The great thing about our literary environment is that there is so much to choose from, so I wish them well. Well away from me, but well.
