Bill and I attended a naked barbecue & pool party today at our friend Michael’s house. Great food and even greater company; about 30 attended. Some we knew and more we now know! The best friendships start off nude, as the essence of ourselves. Especially wonderful to see @idratherbenaked.bsky.social

Students Still Sweat, They Just Don't Shower (Published 1996)

The New York Times did a big article on this phenomenon almost 30 years ago, so the trend away from communal showering began a couple of generations ago here in the USA.

Guys in my class really hated getting nude, but the years before us all thought it was normal.

At my high school, the showers were removed also around 1990 when the entire school was redesigned after a major fire. Not just remodeled with dividers, but entirely deleted. No longer possible to shower after PE class for the past 35 years.

As an example, my grad school dorm at the University of Chicago (International House) used to have an open shower room on each floor, accommodating 5 guys at a time. In 1990, shortly after I graduated, they installed dividers at the behest of students opposed to nudity for religious reasons.
