Europe’s Hogwarts has a new Dumbledore Patrizia Nanz is trying to make the European University Institute relevant

Good to see a piece about the EUI in The Economist. But this is a hatched job, with little resemblance to reality. Charlemagne is usually excellent, so this is odd. Can only think that @spignal.bsky.social talked to people who don't really know what's going on.

Day 1 of the Age-Period-Cohort Workshop - organised by our @rafgrotti.bsky.social - is a wrap! ✨

Key takeaway: the APC identification problem may be an unsolvable puzzle, but there are some tricks to get around it.

Thanks to @juhoharkonen.bsky.social & J. van Leeuwen for sharing their expertise!

Realistisesti, tuskin taipuisi.

10:n vuoden rahoitus tutkimusryhmälle milli / vuosi starttirahalla.

Today was my last day as Director of the @eui-eu.bsky.social Max Weber Programme. In September I told the fellows that they will look back at the postdoc years as the best ones of their careers. My years at the MWP matched those. I’ll miss them, the fantastic fellows, and the view from the office

Got it. An alternative would be to equalize outcomes (e.g., income) when inequalities arise from conditions that are hard and questionable to treat (a no-child policy would be the ultimate equalizer of inequalities bw kods, but maybe not so smart either)

Just following up on Martin’s point, my intuition is also that bw-processes are more important for inequality (and I’ve rarely done any within stuff myself) but the twin study results especially have made me wonder to what extent is it simply because that’s the way we’ve learned to think about ineq
