Henley Iron Age hoard fundraiser launched by Oxfordshire charity
The Oxfordshire Museum needs ยฃ10,000 to secure the find, which is officially classified as treasure.
A carefully written press release highlighting the benefits of archaeologists and detectorists working together is sent to the BBC, now edited down to remove all trace of that and a Frankenstein's monster made from stitching it with other articles already on the web. ๐

a golden retriever puppy is scaling the wall of her crate. her front legs are draped over the top holding herself up, while her back right toes are gripping onto a bar of the crate. she realizes she's been caught and tries to play it cool with a casual smile. we would be remiss to leave out that she has a hamster water bottle attached to the side of her crate.
This is Mii. She was caught mid-escape. Luckily she has a get out of jail free card, which is her face. 12/10 (IG: sea.mie0731)

Why do people get so exercised about the suggestion that some prehistoric earthworks were for ceremonial or ritual space.
"Too much effort for that! Must have a practical purpose! You only say that when you have no clue!'
Notre Dame-200 years to build. But nah, humans don't do this sort of thing..๐คฆโโ๏ธ

An Iron Age rampart picked out in low winter sun crossing a field with woodland in the background. I'll be talking about this hillfort at the Sun & Fire dayschool in Shrewsbury in March
#HillfortsWednesday Just part of the one kilometre of defences which cut across the promontory isthmus of the vast 64 hectare Llanymynech hillfort, on the Welsh Border nr Oswestry ๐ฎ
This huge hillfort contained rich copper reserves at its heart, mined in the Bronze & Iron Ages โ๏ธ

Oldbury Castle in Wiltshire, triangular with double banks and ditches enclosing 8 hectares. Visitors often ignore the hillfort in favour of the 19th century obelisk and the nearby White Horse which was cut in 1780.

Incidentally, the palstave I posted about recently was found somewhere in the vicinity of Castle Hill -certainly no more than 1km away. The agricultural labourer who discovered it worked on the farm that the hillfort is part of. (3/4)
