A subcanonical instance of Europe's endlessly dying modernism, or its American imitations. ON/NC/ATX/PHL.

I look forward to you being my next Senator, Conor.

Let an F35 take off from a carrier for any reason, anywhere in the world, and dutifully every newsman becomes a stenographer.

Deadly curious how a guy who attended a COUNTERprotest to the GWU camp-in found his way onto her staff. Odd bedfellows do make good coalitions though.

Depends how blighted your town of 20,000 is. Mine had three hibachi grills - big plates, lots of steak and sauce - but hasn't yet been reached by the good word of pad thai.

Not just jingling keys: jingling keys because the baby ASKED you to.

In some ways, this used to be his life and I think he misses it. He could eat a McDouble and tousle Macaulay Culkin's hair and nobody was calling him any confusing words like "fascist".

I would put The Spy Who Came in from the Cold up there with the best books of the last century, alongside some Graham Greenes and well above most Bellow.

How did you get an argument about the Bronze Age Collapse. Did you lose a close Hittite relative.

The closest thing to an A16z founder in that book is like, Michael Pemulis, or arguably Dr. Incandenza himself, and I would see both of those as distinctly cautionary tales.

And the megacorps responsible have turned Quebec into a waste dump and now sponsor the literal calendar years. Corporations are not your friends!

He seemed kinda mercenary about it to be honest. Like, from his perspective that's the best he was given and he did it.

That is correct.

I asked him about it once. He's proud of that piece and thinks the source is irrelevant. He sees non-merit admissions criteria as a blight, teenage Mamdani as nefarious and - before you ask - does not care much whether the poor can still access higher ed once they're gone.

Currently putting pieces of leftover smoked duck on a Digiornio pizza. To eat with a salad tossed with leftover toasted bulgur and shaved carrots in Korean ginger dressing. And Singapore Slings.

Indulge your basest impulses today fam.

This website is 50% Philadelphian by volume, already a volatile breed, but then we got stuck in six foot snowdrifts for two weeks and when it finally melted we got two feet more.

They should mail every subscriber a valium before we all get ourselves a jail sentence.

If by "we" you meant "we, the nation of Canada" you might have been onto something.

He also basically set up the Orleans palace as like, a proto-Dimes Square for dirtbag leftists to drink coffee and podcast about revolution. Truly a man of OUR times.

In every way that matters Saint-Just was Jacobin Stephen Miller.

Indeed. He took a pretty dim view of himself and his work was full of self-recrimination.

While it would be irresponsible to say that was the reason for his suicide, it's also true that the characters in his fiction that felt that way about themselves didn't meet happy ends.

A person who did terrible shit. Also a person who thought very deeply about decency and duty to others.

It's convenient in cases of "great artist awful person" to gesture at the contradictions, but every so often the awful person is not making art despite their moral quandaries, but about them.
