I don't hold out any hope for much of what the Christian church has become in America. They are already complicit and knee deep in anti Christ-like rhetoric. But the rest of the Church and those of other faiths and no faith need to be outspoken for mercy and kindness and compassion.

I think they have already done that.

People wonder, "Why didn't the Christian Church in Germany do more to oppose Hitler?" This. This is why. Simply, respectfully asking for mercy for fellow humans (kind of the entire premise of the faith) is attacked with hatred. May all of us who value mercy show similar courage to this Bishop.

Mercy. She respectfully asked that mercy be considered. As is her right and responsibility as a religious leader of the Christian faith. May we all exhibit such courage in the days to come.
