"To make it as simple as possible, there are two major happenings that have been slowly sinking my enthusiasm to continually write about the broader fighting game communities and their foibles. They aren't new grievances and I've written about them before, but in this difficult year I've had a lot of time to reflect on what I want to keep doing with my time, and these keeping sticking in my craw. I will never have an answer that fully satisfies my problems and that's okay. I'm not looking for one either; I'm more than willing to let bygones be bygones and leave it at that. What I can't abide, however, is contininuing on as if they haven't fundamentally altered how I feel about FGC stuff as a whole and keep producing the same blog year after year. Change is inevitable, and I'm on a straight line - as a wise man once said, ain't no gettin' offa this train we're on.
New from me - It's not clickbait, it's not a gag, this is for real. The end of TFW!! has come. You can read about some of the reasons why here, including a growing disillusionment for keeping what I write strictly in the realm of FGC stuff. It's been real!

Genuinely unsure which is sadder: if this shirt was an attempt at satire or not.

Five books I wish I had read before becoming a TO:
1. Think Again, Adam Grant
2. The Great Good Place, Ray Oldenburg
3. Cultish, Amanda Montell
4. The Courage to Be Disliked, Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga
5. Radical Candor, Kim Scott

Too bad the GOP effectively criminalized studying how information moves online and news orgs laid off and demonized all the reporters who covered the burgeoning online accelerationist performative death cults. All of that work was somehow "censorship" that needed to be stopped. Now we're here.

After the most recent news, however, I realized I wasn't mean enough. Not even close. So I rewrote my article to get my real thoughts out there.

You may not always find me at the big stuff at this rate, but locals, online weeklies, community servers & sites, you can trust I'll be there forever

Jazzy Circuit is doing a lot of PR for 3s that I suspect is missing from SF4 (or Hyper Fighting, which would be my selection as an old head). Plus sf4 has that wack old delay netcode holding it back, I think with a reissue and rollback it could get traction again

As I wrote last week, this is a global political movement that has explicitly set the goal of eradicating the very concept of equality.

I know what disappearing is: Little van shows up, gone you are. In the Republican US, they could grab me and make me go away, and nobody would be able to do shit even if they tried. I think if anyone with Western privilege would be worried about going to Egypt, they should now be equally worried about going to the US. These things are random, unfair, and without recourse." Others, like Subnautica Below Zero, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry writer Jill Murray, who is based in Montreal, are maintaining a healthy distance from the increasingly bad ol’ US of A out of senses of both solidarity and self-preservation. "[The breaking point] was seeing how afraid trans and BIPOC friends were of crossing the border. I take it seriously and don’t really want to go where they can’t go," Murray told Aftermath. "My biggest personal factor is that I’ve been self employed for a very long time, and that can make me face more questioning. With a trade war on, it doesn’t feel like the risk is warranted – even if I’m facing mounting pressures to network, given the overall situation of the industry."
next week, game developers from all over the world will convene in san francisco for gdc, an industry centerpiece. but recent events like the abduction of a pro-palestine student, anti-trans orders, and trump's aggression toward canada have some canceling their plans

I understand. I just don't want this place to become another X where people are more concerned with shutting down worthwhile conversations than continuing them.
12.03.2025 15:15 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0If someone instead were to ask, "What does it mean for CB to be part of CPT now that IWC is involved," would that be acceptable to you?
12.03.2025 15:12 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Also, I anticipated that you would make this about me because exchanges like this tend to resort to whataboutism, but I'll play along.
I agree that starting the conversation in the way you would describe might be more productive, but I think a more productive way would be to ask a question.
I simply wanted to know how you think people who were genuinely concerned by the announcement should address the matter because you offered no clear alternative to how you think this discourse should be taking place.
12.03.2025 15:12 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0By conversation, I mean the response to the announcement that the EWC is partnering with CPT, which, in turn, CB is a part of.
I agree that to infer that CB is accepting Saudi money based solely on this announcement is wrong and somewhat irresponsible, but my reply to your post was not rhetorical.
I'm sorry to hear that you find this sort of discourse exhausting, but how would you suggest people have this conversation instead? Or are you suggesting that because you believe CB has "earned the benefit of the doubt," this conversation shouldn't be happening at all?

Well, the rich take hand outs. Maybe they're rich bc they were offered handouts. Maybe they're rich bc they take them.
This "shame in receiving free money" for the poor but not the rich makes me SO MAD

Kinda pathetic that we can't just ... get our news in other ways. Capitalism got people propping up this shit platform in the saddest ways, but also just out of sheer laziness
