What's funny is, I was thinking about that on the drive home from metatopia last year! I had an idea on the drive and when I pulled into my next rest stop, I typed it up on my phone, then realized "wait, I could have used a voice memo, I didn't need to wait" oops!

I can usually do the trick where I retrace my steps and get back to the thought I had forgotten, but I'm not sure that works with driving

lmao this is really bugging me, I had an idea that I was pretty sure in the moment would fix an issue I've been having with Diplomacy of Queens, or would at least allow me to make significant progress on the game again, and it has disappeared

(if you're looking at how much I read and going "how?" the answer is "I used to spend the exact same amount of time that I currently spend reading on PHONE SOCIAL MEDIA APPS instead and I drove myself insane")

anyway it still suits me well enough when I want something quick and easy, a little palate cleanser between heavier things. but admittedly, I am often reading to distract myself from ~everything in the world that isn't the book~ so books that don't require my full attention aren't great for that

also very funny to then start reading a bunch more like, 19th century serialized fiction, which you would think would be AWFUL about going over the same points again, but really isn't! like it's there once in a while, but not for the most part! kind of impressive honestly

it feels like the thing where the netflix execs were requesting script changes to accommodate people looking at their phones and not the movie. we have to re-explain every 20-40 pages of this novel because we know you'll be on your phone at least that often. pathetic

was thinking about this because I keep seeing hints of booktwt controversy where someone complained about a currently popular author doing this and indeed, one of her books was one of the ones that made me stop and reassess "do I really want to be reading more stuff like this? no I do not"

had to take a break from reading recent books when I read a bunch in a row where I was like "wow this is mostly good but why is it constantly over-explaining everything" like oh my god they really do think you need a recap of what happened 20 pages ago and a reminder every 20 pages after that

I had an idea to fix or improve one of my in-progress games while I was driving a few days ago, and I couldn't record it at the time, because of the responsible driving I was doing, but I have since forgotten it and it has not come back to me and I am experiencing regrets

this is probably premature but while I’m thinking about going to cons, do I know anyone planning on Breakout and/or Origins in 2026? I haven’t done Breakout since 2019 and I’ve never been to Origins but I was thinking… those might be nice… especially if I can also see pals…

BUT ALSO, I can't personally take normal business type risks without like, crying a LOT. and thinking about handling 5 digits of money makes my heart race and my doctor gets mad at me about my resting heart rate as is. I am a delicate consumptive poet and I am going to die at the lakes. pitiful.

I HATE feeling like I'm too much of a delicate artist type to do business, it makes me SO upset to think of being that way. I have always liked to think of myself as practical and pragmatic about these things. and I don't think that being aware of the financial aspect "ruins the art" or anything

today he was very tactfully like "that sounds like a difficult situation" and I'm like "is it a difficult situation if the problem is that I'm unhappy with my own choices but also think that making other choices would make me even unhappier?" and he said yes, so. I guess it's a difficult situation

saw two different cybertrucks two days in a row, week ruined, week canceled, getting back in bed for the next five days

I had more posts after this where I was describing a conversation I was having about it with Greg yesterday, but even in a day-later text recap where I could tastefully edit what I actually said or felt to make myself come across better, I was not succeeding lmao. typing up my own words like "ugh!"
