I think most of the pop-ish music I listen to has the Everlys to thank, but in reality you can trace most of what we listen to a LONG way back. Nearly everything is built on what came before - discovering that very little is truly new is part of what makes listening to everything so much fun.

Love this album. The song Tusk has to be one of the strangest singles by an established artist ever.

Lots of artists fit this. The one that immediately comes to mind is the Grateful Dead. Despised them when I was younger but have grown to appreciate them a bit.

Really fun movie! Getting zombies and punks together in a graveyard naked in the rain can’t be beat.

Bad finger - No Dice

Great record. So many good songs, but Sweet Young Thing is the song I would play for people who were Monkees skeptics… Texas punk masterpiece.

Great album from one of my favorite artists - delicate and powerful, sometimes at the same time. It was unlike anything I’d ever heard before and still hits me like a ton of bricks when I put it on.

Today’s NYT Connections has a bunch of Big Star references!

Ramones debut had an amazing amount of influence after its release. Way more than Pet Sounds or Sgt Pepper, which nobody else could effectively mimic.

Kinks, Zombies, Beatles, Band are my keepers. Pretty sure I have them all except Iron Butterfly so I’d expect something good in return for the ones I’d give up.

I can’t believe it includes Orchestra Luna - a band I first saw in a college cafeteria. I saw them a couple of times after that: once at CBGB and once at Carnegie Hall (if my memories are correct). They were really good and fun live. The Lp didn’t do them justice.

One of my all time favorite comedies! Watched it with my wife on the eve of our wedding and she didn’t change her mind, so there’s that. We still look at the price tag on something and say “that’s too fuckin high!”

I had multiple chances to see Sun Ra and never got around to it. One specific regret is Count Basie at a small venue in Ithaca.

Love BJ Wilson’s drumming on the Lp, otherwise not a fun listen.

If I’m in a creepy John mood, Cry Baby Cry. A silly Paul mood I’ll go with USSR. Otherwise While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

I’ve only seen ELO (Third Day tour in a college auditorium in Canton, NY) and the Stones (Shea Stadium) from this list. ELO were not at their best that night, the Stones were the Stones: glad I saw them but not blown away. No clear winner here.

My first thought was that I hoped they didn’t give permission for this.
