School librarians are licensed teachers, often with advanced degrees, who teach students how to access, process, and share information from many and varied sources. Bookshelves can’t do that, Stewart.

The library without a librarian is neither curated nor fully resourced. It is just a room.

I just got an OOO message from someone at Penguin Young Readers saying that it’s Drop Everything and Read day so they won’t be responding to emails. I love that for them and I want that for me.

A colleague asked what I thought about middle schoolers last week.

"I love middle schoolers as a group. They're becoming aware of the problems with the world they're inheriting. They want to know the real deal, not the little kid version, and then they want to do something about it."

Keeping Curiosity Alive Humans have long had a cultural suspicion of curiosity. We warn children that β€˜Curiosity killed the cat!’ We tell stories like those of Adam and Eve or Pandora’s Box, where curiosity leads to disas…

As artificial intelligence grows more powerful, I wonder if curiosity will become one of the most valuable human qualities left. Here's my latest blog about 'curiosity': school-matters.org/2026/02/13/k... #education #edusky #teachers
