It’s just not something everyone’s going to want to focus on while going through the story and all of the normal-mode content, and personally I think that’s reasonable. I fundamentally disagree with the idea that it’s not “real” content just because it’s easy

I know plenty of people who’ve done synced/MIL stuff on their way through the game just through PF with no communities involved, there’s an ingame audience for it even without Discords or whatever

If it’s something the player wants to do it’s very doable

You can even feel this doing Unreals; they’re pretty fun but despite the stricter sync they’re usually a lot easier than the proper Extreme for that patch

I wouldn’t be opposed to another solution necessarily, but unsync at least encourages the content to be run for farms (and there is also BLU)

As for the tutorial aspect, sure the older content is simpler in terms of mechanics, but tbh I think that honestly makes it a worse tutorial compared to just jumping into DT stuff. ARR-STB was made for a completely different design space that put job complexity over encounters

Sure old EX/Savage don’t “matter” the same way current expac ones do, but that’s always likely to happen in an MMO of this type. They at least preserve it better than WoW does and allow you to sync if you’d like to experience them

Having Advanced as a step closer to Extreme (even if a bit easier) will hopefully entice more people to try both Criterion and harder content in general

Idk I’m rambling but it’s just frustrating that cool and improved content is being overshadowed by people’s lack of intrinsic motivation

I genuinely think Merchant’s Tale will have much better legs than the EW variants for one reason: they didn’t completely fuck the difficulty progression

IMO Crit Savage was a mistake that made the gap between Variant and Crit Normal way too wide and discouraged most people from even trying it

“The game could use more gearing avenues and Criterion giving tome upgrade mats would be a good compromise” - fair and reasonable discussion

“They didn’t do that so the content has no value” - what if you did things because you enjoyed them

Just finished Merchant’s Tale (Advanced), this is actually a really nice spot for difficulty between normal and Extreme and I hope we get a lot more of these going forward. It’d be a great way to introduce people to high-end stuff
