I keep thinking about how the propaganda leading to this war was all about how you needed to rescue women and the first thing they did was kill dozens of little girls.

I loved those and the beach down from the start area. It's incredible how some places feel different when you go into them from another angle and new weather. I feel this a lot in caelid, where things feel generally too chaotic but sometimes you catch the right vista and it looks extremely metal.

A lot of discourse all the time about "it's a distraction". And like, distraction is a feature of this mission of chaos they're in. Everything distracts from everything else, they don't even have to plan it moment to moment. There's no orchestration other than "an atrocity every 2 weeks"

But I'm eager to explore slowly on this run because my first one was rushed and I'm seeing so much great stuff I don't remember being so good.
Also whatever weather you get in a given area affects the atmosphere and colors a lot, and I didn't sit still to see the best of some places before, probably

In the DLC they were forced into wild new light and color combos, since the base game already does so much. It has some of the most mindblowing stuff, but there were a few areas that got very muted, and others went with a orange-gold/blue-green tint that kind of turned my stomach...

I have a problem with heavy color gradings on film and games. In Fromsoft specifically, it's usually done really well since the first souls, boosting pallettes and distinguishing areas, but when it doesn't hit it for me, it gives me a feverish (pejorative) and cheap feeling.

I'm not sure! I could swear things look more subtle now and atmosphere effects are tweaked to perfection. Fogs, light rays, stuff like that. Either that or optimization is allowing me higher visual settings on the same setup...

I'm just replaying this too and I could also swear it's looking better. I did complain about some of the color grading, especially in late areas of the DLC. But I was just going through the beginning of the DLC and the shrouded sunlight is absolutely gorgeous, I didn't remember it being so good.
