I will be thinking about this as we continue to design systems enhanced by AI. How to get the best of the algorithm without over-optimising our humanity out of the mix.

I can't imagine the current crop of AI systems are tuned for this kindness and discretion. It's hardly the famous trolley problem and no-one was going to die but the small act of humanity made a big difference to my day.

I approached a junction as a bus was pulling out and they had the right of way. But despite this, he saw something in my struggle and waved me through. I made the train and saw my kids to bed.

A thought about humans, AI and kindness.

Leaving work last night, I realised I could get a delayed train if I jogged down the hill and might make the kids bedtime. I had two bags, an umbrella and coat tossed over my arm. I was clearly struggling a bit but trying my best.

Yesterday I felt bad after giving Halfords front line support a hard time, but then got through to someone who could actually do something. It was how it should have been in the first place and no more remorse felt.

New Zelda seems promising after ~1h last night. What sets it apart from other open world games is the sense that you are physically in the world, rather than an avatar wandering through a sim. The lines between character, interactive elements and world are invisible.
