it's gotta be 30% bravery & 70% ego (breaking down caucasity into the sums of its parts) for any white person to comment in threads not designed for their gaze, let alone their input.

infuriates me when news reports assign an action/intent/emotion to "Russia" or "China" or "America" [sic], rather than its ruling class, not just because it promotes nationalist, often racist thinking, but because the nation-state is the wrong level of analysis for what's happening.

The thing about teaching a whole class on Frankenstein in literature and film is that whenever a new Frankenstein movie comes out, I'm just…well, obligated to go see it.

penny dreadful remains my favorite tv series of all time. or at least top 5... and both frankenstein's creature & his bride (billie piper) are the reasons for it.

all of these shows, like The Night Agent and The Diplomat, that center around an American president still beholden to the press, congress, or our allies are all made irrelevant by a trump administration that has zero regard for anything other than his own flatulence.

yep. i hadnt thought of it that way but i think it's exactly why we've never finished season one of The Bear — a great show by all accounts but something has just been off about it. "disaster tourism" might just be it.

my adult children are struggling to even pay $1200+ a month... one daughter's had at least 4 residences in the past 2 years (she just moved into her 5th apt yesterday, mother of 2 teen boys) ‐ we have subsidized at least 20,000 total to our 5 kids in 3 years & it is a drain.

march 9th and i have already filled my yearly quota of watching "the lucky hero" run 15 feet with a stick/vase/piece of brick/cotton candy to single-handedly subdue multiple antagonists wielding machineguns.

i didnt even know about it... im so entrenched in all the older era jazz that im always a year or two late for the recent stuff.

"oh, the description says it's a 'detective drama' but clearly the hand of god just saved their ass, so this is actually some supernatural angelic shit"

im just tired of suspending disbelief because the dumb ass amateur sleuth needs a moment of blind luck to not get caught — those heavily scripted moments are ruining my viewing pleasure.
