This is an intersectional issue.

We already know that BIPOC and disabled people are overrepresented in the incarcerated population. While I can't find the specific demographic information of the fire camps, one article said the fire camps demographics are similar to overall incarceration

My thoughts are not only with everyone whose lives and homes are lost and at risk, but also the fire fighters who are risking their lives for as little as a slightly reduced prison sentence and less than $1 per day. 30% of the people fighting the California fires are incarcerated.

Last week, I watched a TikTok from a man who was convicted of a crime and he negotiated for a longer sentence so that he could serve his sentence on a California fire camp and ultimately have a slightly shorter sentence.

Feelings that are difficult to work through can be messengers. They can help us understand what is important to us, they can help us make decisions, they can help us make changes.

Feelings are temporary and fluid. We sit with our feelings. We move through the difficult feelings, none are permanent. We enjoy the pleasurable feelings with appreciation. We use mindfulness to identify feelings that we are having difficulty naming.

There are no bad feelings!

Yes, some feel bad in the moment. Yes, some are challenging, some are motivating. Yes, some may drive us to act in ways that we don't want to act.

All feelings are important, all feelings deserve to be recognized, validated, respected, processed.

If you think that your particular political party is 100% free of racism, you need to take a very large step back, stop running your mouth, listen to Black and Indigenous people, and reflect.

In true colonial fashion, the majority of people tend to see things right/wrong and don't see nuance. The majority of people do not learn to listen to people they've been conditioned to ignore. The majority of people only listen enough to respond, they don't listen to understand.

I don't love when I post about Indigenous issues and then non-Indigenous people of any given political affiliation swoop in to tell me that I am taking side with a political affiliation that they don't like.
