Well I have my quick-start cards for players to just grab and play a game they maybe know nothing about. Here is the FF one. But it doesn’t answer questions that may arise like I try with my google doc primers.

My favorite thing about the viral rise of Dandan is that it inspired others to create Magic variants and experiment with the game. Magic has always been a sandbox game. Get in the box, and let’s play.

I don’t think I’m spoiling anything by saying that here.

Basically one less cost and the rest of the list they felt was steered enough away from a decking end game that they felt the 10 card exile and the possible recursion from the graveyard was moot. And they liked that ending the turn was another cost of casting it. Basically.

Hope we get to play a game at Shoebox next month.

This is a card they used in the Dandan Secret Lair that I discussed with the design team on Thursday asking why they chose it over the Diminishing Returns in my original Forgetful Fish list. The reasons totally make sense. But like a cube, Dandan is customizable and choices are subjective.

Thanks Dean. The best new variant I played was Red Fish, Blue Fish, which, of course, is combining my Forgetful Fish and Red Hot Seizoned Fish in a 2-HG team thing, which you know. Cause it was your idea. Thanks.

I encourage all players to experiment with the game. Magic is a sandbox game, really.

Five of them are friends’ variants. I release Google Doc primers, like I did with Forgetful Fish, when I’m finally happy with them. Links to all that I’ve released can be found in the description of each of my YouTube videos.

I got to hang out at WotC HQ today. And meet a whole bunch of cool people. And play some Magic variants. And look what they gave me. So cool.

I will probably get the chance to play Dandan with Cal again! Actually, we didn’t play Dandan the first time we met. He just schooled me a Trippin’ and we both lost to Braden in a game of RPS Magic. Hope to fix that. Dandan. Not winning at Trippin’. I’m just plain bad at Trippin’.

Indeed it is, but I’ll always love the classic.

Believe it or not these are the only two playmats I own. Dandan and other Dandan.

I can tell you that it is very beautiful. And one of the coolest Secret Lair, ever. But I am admittedly a little biased.

It will release for order on the Secret Lair website some time in March. That’s really all I know. But it will be available for some window of time in March, I’m subtly pushing for a print to order, but I don’t have much influence.
