29.04.2025 11:38 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0We've lost somethingβa connection to what's around us, a sense of communityβThe Dispatch is bringing it back.
Watch this space as we get ready to launch the New River Valley's local paper.
What ever happened to forcing a vote to end the national emergencies being used to impose tariffs?
07.04.2025 20:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just launched nrvdispatch.com, a new online paper serving Virginia's New River Valley region! Starting with a job board for now and hopefully growing fast from there! #blacksburg #virginiatech
07.04.2025 01:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0those are some really impressive three! keep up the good work!

03.04.2025 03:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Longest Senate floor speeches:
1. Booker: 25h 4m, 2025
2. Thurmond: 24h 18m, 1957
3. Amato: 23h 30m, 1986
4. Morse: 22h 26m, 1953
5. Cruz: 21h 18m, 2013
Also wonder about the blind spots of that data. How many peopleβs lives would be saved by a transplant, but donβt ever get on the registry? How many could have their quality of life improved by one?
28.03.2025 05:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Unfortunately the HRSA data for transplant list removal reason seems to only be available center by center. Might have some manual tabulation to do
28.03.2025 05:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Been looking into the US transplant system, trying to guess at how big an impact recent innovations might have (pig kidneys & hearts, titanium heart, etc.) and what future areas might have the most impact
28.03.2025 05:57 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sounds like ICE employed El Saladorβs strategy for rounding up people to send there: arrest anyone who looks like they might be in a gang (anyone who has tattoos) and lock βem all up. No questions. No trials. No recourse.
27.03.2025 00:02 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Whatβs up with how weird ICE agents are acting? Like this case they say heβs fine and he gets deported anyway. Seemβ¦ off in many other stories
27.03.2025 00:00 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In the stories Iβve seen of people being unreasonably detained by ICE, the officersβ behavior is just soβ¦ strange.
They seem to know whatβs going to happen. They wonβt say what. They wonβt say why.
When asked, they claim ignorance.
Secret police. Disappearances. Punishing speech. This sounds eerily familiarβ¦
26.03.2025 22:27 β π 9 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Extremely concerning but also absolutely hilarious. Gave me a good laugh!
24.03.2025 18:02 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Sounds like theyβre going to have branding on the kidsβ baskets. Just awful.
24.03.2025 13:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Shocked this doesnβt violate the preliminary injunction
20.03.2025 01:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh I had no clue they were allowed to force you to unlock it
19.03.2025 23:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Howβd they know what was on his phone?!?
19.03.2025 22:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Congress needs to take back its power from the President, be a strong branch and stand up to the nonsense!
19.03.2025 21:50 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Scary when weβre the ones travel advisories are being issued about
19.03.2025 21:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now that is fascinating so many levels, it's interesting (and fits more of a patten than I'd expect) how the past world leaders are viewed
19.03.2025 04:02 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This is so horrible. Hopefully the reinstatement of USAID can happen fast enough to secure the site before all hell breaks loose
19.03.2025 03:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thatβs quite a relief, not a good look but at least theyβre still mostly complying with court orders
18.03.2025 16:11 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Itβs shocking to me how little we seem to care about Congress. I just looked through the entire staff directory at VT and, as best I can tell, nobody here studies what happens after members are elected.
18.03.2025 07:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm no expert, Iβm sure thereβs a lot more that needs to be done, but this is a start. I plead with every Senator and every Representative: PLEASE do your job
17.03.2025 23:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0With the firing of the inspectors general, there isnβt really anyone providing federal oversight.
Congress needs to fill its role here.
Members need more staff staff. Committees need more staff. Groups like CBO and CRS need more staff.
17.03.2025 23:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Congress needs to give itself enough funding to do its job. I imagine each any every member knows how short staffed they are. There simply arenβt enough people to get the work done.
17.03.2025 23:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Calling on my Senators @kaine.senate.gov and @markwarner.bsky.social to do everything they can to retake Congressional power
