A golden leafy lichen (eastern candlewax) mixed with a tube lichen on a dead conifer branch. The candlewax lichen has one brown disk, the fruiting body of the lichen, rimmed in the same golden colour as the lichens lobes.

If gathering dead conifer branches for your fire, be sure and check for Eastern Candlewax lichen (Ahtiana aurescens) — it’s S2S3 endangered/ vulnerable here in Nova Scotia. That is: pretty rare. But if you camp in old woods by rivers, lakes or swamps, you might just see some. #lichen #speciesatrisk

You think evil is going to come into your houses wearing big black boots. It doesn’t come like that. Look at the language. It begins in the language.

Why are lichenologists so good at flattery?

Cause they study ascus!

I read that: that’s why he has framed it as a national “emergency”. That allows him to get around USMCA.

Prepping for tonight’s *Paddling Adventures* talk, thinking about Douglas LePan’s “Canoe-Trip”

«What of this fabulous country
Now that we have it reduced to a few hot hours
And sun-burn on our backs?»

In this case, now that it’s reduced to a few hot slides…

This Friday in Annapolis Royal I’ll be talking about this fun little local backcountry canoe trip over 12 lakes between Hwy 10 and Hwy 8. I’ll spend some talking about how to plan a trip somewhere you’ve never been. #canoeing #kespukwitk #SWNS #microadventure #go #getoutdoors

Sweet little xc-ski on a beautiful piece of provincial land overlooking Folly Lake — wasn’t really looking but did see one Shaggy Fringe lichen (Anaptychia palmulata) — such beautiful brown fruiting bodies! Skiing’s been amazing this year! #xcskiing #lichen #speciesofconservationconcern #novascotia
