If gathering dead conifer branches for your fire, be sure and check for Eastern Candlewax lichen (Ahtiana aurescens) — it’s S2S3 endangered/ vulnerable here in Nova Scotia. That is: pretty rare. But if you camp in old woods by rivers, lakes or swamps, you might just see some. #lichen #speciesatrisk

Blue Felt lichen, lead gray colour, scallop shaped, red fruiting bodies on a mossy maple trunk with other bryophytes

Blue felt side angle highlighting slightly upturned lobes and frosty white hairs around lobe tips. Red apothecia with white rims.

Hidden amongst pale green of Tree Lungwort Lichen, a small, barely mature Blue Felt lichen thallus. Lead gray colour, scalloped lobes, slightly upturned lobe tips, frosty white hairs underneath. Only a few small red apothecia (spore producing bodies) with white rims.

Growing on green mossy stuff (?), an immature Blue Felt lichen with no apothecia (spore producing bodies). Lead gray colour, scalloped lobes, slightly upturned lobe tips, frosty white hairs underneath turning bluer under the lobes. Raised radial ridges.
