We see the sun set on the horizon. Narration: "The horizon was a brilliant shimmering silver." The boy holds on to the shark's fin under water, passing by colorful fish and underwater flora. Narration: "Under water, I saw colors I've never imagined." The shark smiles as he swims, surrounded by fish. He sings Na Puuwai Haokila, "Ua lawa i ka lei o ka lau koa I paukū ‘ia mai me ke ‘a‘ali‘i" Narration: "And as my guide sang," The boy sleeps against the waves, covering him like a blanket. Narration: "I was rocked to sleep by the waves." The singing continues: "‘Ī mai nō ‘oe, “E hui lōkahi, Ua maluhia a‘o Pu‘u Huluhulu” Nā hulu kūpuna, nā wiwo ‘ole ‘Oli‘oli i nā mele aloha ‘āina" The boy is washed up on the shore of a beach, covered in seaweed. Narration: "When I woke up on the shore, it all felt like a dream." A voice off panel shouts "TAONUI!" The boy's mother tearfully takes the boy, who is just waking up in her arms. Narration: "I hear my mother. I'm in her arms." The mother cries out, translated from Hawaiian: "Kāmohoaliʻi has returned you to us!"

We cut to present day. The boy, now a teen, casually recounts what happens. Taonui: "Anyway, that's how I made it to America." His friends stare at him in shock: "..." Simon Valentine gets teary: "a talking shark... saved your life." Roxy Lewis butts in: "Are you sure it wasn't a dolphin?" Taonui Mun shrugs: "yep. Don't think a dolphin would make it any more believable." Roxy yells, frustrated: "Dolphins save people from sharks!" Conner (Superboy in his pedestrian identity- reimagined as a Black light skinned boy) asks with an investigative expression: "what your mom said- 'Kāmohoaliʻi'. The Shark God. Do you think that's who the shark was?" Taonui: "well. No. 'Cuz the shark told me his name."

Dialogue narration continues from the previous page. Taonui: "He said his name's Nanaue." We skip to a scene of teen Taonui standing on a pier, looking out to the sea. His hands are in his pockets as he looks at the ocean. A closeup of his sad longing expression. We look out at the horizon, the sun sets on the sea, where the water shimmers beautiful colors.

A little boy looks wide eyed at something off panel, he's surrounded by ocean bubbles. Narration: "I don't even remember how I ended up in the water. The storm, the boat taking us to America. None of it." Big reveal panel shows what the boy is looking at, a giant half man half shark demigod dressed in kapa looks to him. Narration: "But that shark, I remember him. Clear as day."

The shark speaks to the boy in Hawaiian, translated; "It's not your time yet, little one." He swims to the boy's side, the boy holds on to the shark's side and dorsal fin. The shark; "Come. Let us bring you home." The shark's dorsal fin peaks out of the water with the boy riding on his back. The boy looks out to the evening sky. Narration: "When we breached the surface together, it was like I had taken my first breath."
