I think it’s feasible for a model to be informed of its hardware details but I think it’s a lot of harder for it to reason about what they mean and take any sort of action on that information. IOW it’s one thing to know “I’m executing on a GPU” and it’s another thing to know what that implies.

At the very least, you’d need to abstract the information into some sort of universal representation of effort because the efficiency of compute kernels can vary between revisions of the same framework— and there’s no perfect metric for what acceleration is best. It would need to fairly benchmark.

The hardware awareness is very achievable but it feels like if you tried to expose insights like thermal load, the model’s view would almost always be stale as that state is iterating at nanosecond scale. It would be very lossy sampling. My bigger fear is that the model just wouldn’t understand.

Do you have any idea where those “big city” folks come from? Basically everywhere else. Why do you think you understand our relatives better than we do? I don’t get if this a European perspective or what, but even folks from modest rural households migrate to “elite” places like KC or Minneapolis.
