I’m thrilled to share two milestones:
Yesterday, I successfully defended my PhD in Psychology at Oregon State University.
This fall, I’m honored to join UC Davis as an Assistant Professor of Teaching.
Grateful for the mentors, friends, and family who made this journey possible.

Maybe looking at the two constructs in Latin America could help. In contrast to the U.S where discrimination is prototypically race-based, *mestizaje* in LATAM has perpetuated the idea that discrimination is primarily class based in Latin American countries. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

I second the recommendations to really utilize accommodations through the 504 or IEP at the school. Depending on their age you might ask for a pdf or paper copy of assignments.

I tell my students it’s worth it to build up an environment that helps keep them on track.
E.g., planners stink, If you have trouble remembering things then have a Google doc/ reminders/todo list where you write down things you have to do.
Start w/ adding HW to the list as soon as it’s assigned.
Comic depictions of the first page of research papers in the language sciences, with titles that include the following: Just what the hell is a word anyway? See how this single cognitive process or brain area or neural oscillation or gene explains language! Based on the shapes of these old bones, Homo erectus could sing .... don't @ me. A baby looked at one thing more than the other, now we know the secret to grammar. If you think about it, every language is fundamentally the same, amirite? We taught a load of undergrads a made-up language, lol. On the staggering diversity of the many languages across the world. Remember the thing you said only humans could do, here's a video of a monkey / dolphin / corvid / octopus / honeybee doing it. I trained this AI with 80 billion tweets and it became head-writer for phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
