This landmark ruling sets a precedent for all communities who demand systemic change to our food systems, and protects everyone's fundamental rights.
Today’s win is for all of us.
The Court ruled in favour of the claimants, recognising the ongoing moral harm caused by toxic emissions and water pollution. Authorities must also pay compensation for the prolonged distress, including health risks.

The manufacturer of Tefal Teflon pans is being sued by NGOs for claiming in ads that its pans containing PFAS are 'safe'.
But we know that can't be true - PFAS chemicals have been shown to be detrimental to our health and to the environment.
🚨 We're deeply alarmed by the EU Commission's decision to stand by controversial changes of its transparency rules, in violation of EU law & binding court decisions. 1/3

The High Court of Justice of Galicia has ruled for the first time that authorities failing to properly address water pollution from industrial livestock are violating people's fundamental rights – and should be held accountable 🧵
📢The EU has confirmed that access to the Court in environmental matters is a fundamental right📢
In a decision delivered yesterday, the EU Commission referred the Polish gov to the EU's Court of Justice, for there being too many barriers to Polish citizens' environmental 'access to justice'.
☠️The OECD definition of what constitutes PFAS, or ‘forever chemicals’, has been carefully established based on decades of peer-reviewed science.
But the chemicals industry wants it to change and possibly be narrowed, meaning some of these dangerous chemicals will escape proper definition. 1/3
Climate litigation is growing around the world, as more and more people recognise the power of the law as a force for climate justice and accountability.
LSE and Grantham Institute’s new report highlights this trend, underscoring the importance of ClientEarth’s work.

World leaders have renewed calls for a global moratorium on deep-sea mining at the 2025 U.N. Ocean Conference (UNOC) in Nice, France, as the U.S. moves to mine the deep sea in international waters under its own controversial authority.

WE💚FORESTS. Within a decade, the EU deforestation law (#EUDR) could protect over 8 million hectares of forests worldwide from EU consumption. That's almost the size of Austria.
We need this law now. @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu, time to end EU's complicity in the destruction of the world's forests.

⚠️The EU has a systemic problem with destructive bottom trawling in MPAs. We're working to make sure they fix it.
We've already challenged France, Spain & Germany.
Now we're going straight to the @ec.europa.eu, with @oceanaeurope.bsky.social, @seasatrisk.bsky.social & Danmarks Naturfredningsforening
At the UN Ocean Conference (#UNOC3) yesterday, Spain announced it would expand the protected areas around its coastline, including in the Med. This is another step in the right direction - but pledges need to be followed up and enforced.
Together, we can #TurnTheTide for the ocean.
On #MediterraneanDay, we face a harsh reality: the Med is warming 20% faster than the global average, overfished, and polluted.
Existing laws can protect this vital ecosystem and those who depend on it - but only if the EU enforces them.
We’re making sure they do.🌊
Today, ClientEarth and six other environmental NGOs sent a letter to Commissioner Jørgensen, reaffirming our conviction that a rapid renewable energy transition can be achieved without weakening environmental protections.

It's all about the science in court today, with scientists proving how dangerous the water is to health.
This is the first time a court in Europe will hear a case on the human rights impacts of intensive livestock operations on water sources.

UPDATE: We're at the Galician High Court of Justice today to support the residents of the village of As Conchas against their authorities.
The pollution from industrial livestock-rearing in area has made life unfeasible, but the administration hasn't acted to protect its people's right to health.

David Attenborough's new film #Ocean and its footage of destructive bottom trawling has shocked the world.

#UNOC3 kicks off with some good news:
The UK just pledged to ban bottom trawling in 41 MPAs.
Meanwhile, France proposed restrictions of harmful fishing practices in 4% of its mainland waters.
We welcome these pledges, but we want to see the bans followed up and enforced.
It's time to #TurnTheTide
We’re losing forests at a record-breaking rate. It’s largely due to human activity, and climate change is only making it worse.
That’s why strong laws like the #EUDR, are needed to tackle deforestation and protect forests - and the communities who rely on them.
Tens of thousands of whales, dolphins and porpoises die in fishing gear in European waters every year.

The new David Attenborough’s film #Ocean clearly shows the impacts of this destructive fishing practice on marine life and the communities who depend on our ocean.
The footage is shocking and heartbreaking.
We can't no longer ignore this issue.
