I visit where I grew up a couple times a year. This year, we found the first tiny crop of burn morels. We'll be back in the fall to look for porcinis.

In Nov 2020 a landslide into a glacial lake in BC triggered a tsunami & glacial lake outburst flood & eventually a large turbidity current in the sea. In this @jgrearthsurface.bsky.social paper, we look at the sea surface turbidity that resulted.

Looking east over a constructed reach of a gravel bed stream that flows into Vedder River. The banks are composed of coarse gravel. Tall cottonwood trees grow parallel to the opposite channel. It's early spring so the trees have no leaves. Some of the shrubs along the shore are just starting to get leaves. A person is wading in the stream.

I got to spend an hour teaching a class of Environmental Science and Chemistry students how to describe soil colour and hand texture soil samples. It's really fun to spend a bit of time with young students teaching them about things I'm passionate about.

It's been a thing that people like me have been asking google to change for awhile. I think the underlying database structure means it's not a simple change. But there's not a reason to prevent you from asking them to properly classify Canada's parks.

I think it also shows a lack of critical thinking. This is not a recent change. It's been that way for years. It's likely related to an underlying database that classifies parks using american names.
