In #Coventry with @edrc-uk.bsky.social people to see the new Very Light Rail. Track built in 4 weeks without needing to disturb utilities under the road due to innovative construction techniques. Could it be the future for mass roll out of trams across the UK?

Official emissions estimates only consider flights, leaving a country as part of that countries emissions to avoid double counting. In this paper we are looking emissions in and out of the UK. So the figures are not comparible. Section 5.1 of paper explains the details.
01.03.2025 07:31 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I should say I'm not planning on doing this; I'm making a point about land use for a lecture and would like clarity on the law.

Does anybody know the UK laws that make it legal to store private property on the public highway if it is a car but illegal if it were a shed? What is the dividing line? Can you park a caravan in the street? If so, can I put wheels on my shed? Could I convert a van into a home office?

30.01.2025 14:07 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The interesting thing here is that the Chancellor is identifying areas around stations as places where development should be concentrated. This is an old and proven idea. But it is unusual for it to be discussed at such a high level. That is what makes it exciting times.
28.01.2025 09:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The UK system is unusual in that is largely responsive, so slow and unpredictable. You ask for permission on a case by case basis. Most countries have a more zone based approach where areas have pre-granted permission for anything within specific limits as defined in the plan.

I now update with quarterly snapshots of BODS, Traveline, RDG. DFT told me no archives are kept of BODS but would love to hear differently.
15.01.2025 19:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Is the a github repo or similar I can look at for the data collection code?
15.01.2025 19:13 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm interested in making before and after comparisons, e.g. policy changes. But that can be hard if you only realise during or after the event you need data. So there is value in grabbing data now, before you know why you need it.
15.01.2025 19:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I've been trying to build a historical record of timetables, in the UK. With annual/quarterly snapshots of BODS/Traveline/Network Rail data. First thought is to add realtime data for validation and to see things not in the timetable. Punctuality stats etc.
15.01.2025 19:07 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Are you planning to expand this? Would be interested to link it up with work I'm doing on bus timetables e.g. friendsoftheearth.uk/climate/bus-... and www.carbon.place.
