Cleopatra lived closer in time to 'yeet' being in the dictionary than to the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Seconded. Mestizo is good (also endorsed by a Mexican friend of mine). It's been around for ~20 years too.

A slightly blurred picture of a Roman person in a tunic, facing left. Above and below are two parallel decorative borders. The person is definitely not skiing. Instead a poorly executed attempt by the mosaicist to give the person a shadow means it looks like he's skiing.

It's the Winter Olympics, so here's a mosaic of a Roman who is *definitely* skiing. β›·οΈπŸ‘

Explaining the plot of Scooby-Doo to my daughter and realizing the central irony of the show is that the gang cruises around looking for magic and mysteries that never pan out, while the only truly supernatural element is the talking dog they all ignore.

My son and his new girlfriend: sharing romantic gifts and planning a day of activities.

Me and my wife after 20 years of marriage: going to buy drain unblocker after partially flooding the bathroom.

University College London at 200: A potted history The UK's third university, which was founded on 11 February 1826, was the first to admit women.

Here, history happened. UCL was the first UK university to welcome people of all faiths, the first to admit students regardless of social background, and the first to welcome women into higher education alongside men.

Everybody Hates Keir How did Starmer go from landslide to endgame in under two years? Also this week: the most murderous mammal on earth; and every thought I have about an insane train plan.

"They’ve attacked all these people, in a desperate attempt to make clear to racists and social conservatives that they hear them. If the racists and social conservatives were actually going to vote for them this would merely seem abhorrent. When they clearly aren’t, it’s stupid too."

Normally at this time of year i think how nice it would be to go to Rome to watch the rugby. A nice pizza, a Peroni or two maybe sitting outside in the sunshine before the gams....Not today, looks horrendous! #SixNations

An infographic titled "The Chemistry of Whisky" details the production process and the chemical compounds responsible for flavor. The top section illustrates a six-step journey starting with preparation, where dried barley is ground and husks removed. This is followed by mashing to dissolve sugars, fermenting with yeast to create alcohol, and distilling to increase purity. The spirit then undergoes ageing in oak casks for several years before finally reaching the Bottling stage for consumption.

The lower sections identify specific molecules that influence the palate. Whisky lactones from oak barrels provide woody and coconut flavors. Phenolic compounds like guaiacol and eugenol contribute smoky and medicinal notes. Aldehydes such as vanillin and syringaldehyde add vanilla and spicy aromas. Esters like ethyl hexanoate and isoamyl acetate create fruity scents resembling apples and bananas. Finally, other compounds like phenethyl alcohol add floral notes, while diacetyl provides a buttery taste.

And i do read relevant preprints i come across (and search the server for things of interest). I am also happy to take the position that we won't submit anywhere that does not allow prior posting of a preprint though this seems rare in Chemistry now (but wasn't when Chemrxiv started).

My policy these days is to post every paper we write as a preprint before submitting. I think it's beneficial for my students and postdocs to have an output to put on their CV at that stage. This is helped by the fact there is a single obvious preprint server in my field (@chemrxiv.org).

Was this taken on Gairloch beach then? I sort of recognised the view but couldn't quite place it exactly. Though i guess it's not too different an angle to this.....
