All of the above! The tension, yearning, and agonizing of the build up = delectable, but then so is the satisfaction of the act and the tenderness afterward. I like to slow down & zoom in (both emotionally & physically) during the act, which is very fun (if challenging) to write.

I had a point to make saying under what conditions I write sex scenes but I lost the plot💀

Most scenes I write have all 3 stages on pg. But bc of HOW I write them, they just sorta come to me (ha) and I don't know in advance which stage will carry the most weight.

And then. I still gotta edit it.

Also I love the idea of running sex scene logistics by a council of peers. 😆 that just sounds like a fun bonding time for all involved.

A9. Personally enjoy the build-up & aftercare. As an ace person, I ask my allo friends for help w logistics & more intimate character sensitivity Q+As during sex scenes.
Much like music (or a well-choreographed action scene), the chemistry & the characters set the tempo. Practice!

#smutcember 9. Entirely scene dependent! I write most intimate scenes while half asleep with horny daydreams, usually been 3 and 6am.

Aftercare's fun to write for non-horny reasons bc Owen is very prickly before/during sex but once he forgives whoever made him orgasm, he can be pretty funny/sweet.

Having characters walking around implicitly nude at socially inappropriate times is consistently a way bigger deal in edits than I could have predicted before I became a writer.
