07.11.2025 23:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Another Kingfisher. I've named this one the Shitfisher because rather than put on a show, it bellyflops onto the water, splashes about a bit and somehow emerges with a fish. #birds
07.11.2025 21:21 β π 17 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0There's always an exciting bird to photograph if you can get as close to Rock Dove as you can tell amongst all the manky boys in Leith. #birds
31.10.2025 19:38 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Kingfisher. It's either a good photo or a bad photo. Either way I can't see out of one eye now. #birds

24.09.2025 20:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Day 5 of wearing my shutter out taking hundreds of pictures of the same bird. Some improvement. #WildlifePhotography
17.09.2025 15:40 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm constantly frustrated by inaccurate bird names so concur Little Shit is more compelling than Little Grebe.
14.09.2025 21:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0392 pictures of a Little Grebe and this was the best one.
14.09.2025 20:23 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Today's birding discovery is the Marsh Sandpiper looks almost exactly like a Greenshank. But not quite. Size comparisons useless as always as they refuse to stand next to each other. #BirdingScotland

10.09.2025 19:49 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Surprise of the day - this young Sandwich Tern's parent actually came back for it, much to it's screechy relief.
08.09.2025 15:55 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Excitement of telling a stranger about finding a Wheatear in Edinburgh diminished by him explaining to me that they nest in his walls up north and he has to sweep them out of the way to get to the bins.
07.09.2025 12:56 β π 10 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Bored? Go out and see how much of a Goldcrest you can photograph. #Birds
23.08.2025 14:25 β π 21 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0No surprise at all, although the learning opportunity it affords (why it's missing a call or why it's misidentifying a call) is invaluable. Currently trying to figure out how it can reliably differentiate between Stonechat and Blackcap clacks. It can do it every time and I can't (yet).
22.08.2025 21:12 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They seem to be eating almost exclusively black-headed/common gull and wood/feral pigeon. Thanks for helping me narrow it down a little.
20.08.2025 16:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think I've finally solved the mystery of Inverleith Park's weird duck. I've been watching it for months, noticing it's got stubbly wings and can't fly. Today I've caught him out of the water for the first time. He's a tall boy. I suspect a large chunk of Indian Running Duck. #Birds #Edinburgh
20.08.2025 15:39 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Once again I go completely unnoticed by the marauding sharp-eyed raptors. An Edinburgh Peregrine earlier today. #WildlifePhotography #Birds

16.08.2025 19:58 β π 18 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I should just call this Edinburgh Dippers. I'm wondering if this is one of this year's fledglings from the end of April, photographed back at at the nest site and generally not caring about tourists. #BirdingScotland
15.08.2025 10:07 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My newest regular bird pal is this Herring Gull who likes to pretend it's not up to something.
11.08.2025 14:16 β π 11 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0If you spend long enough watching a Sparrowhawk, you'll be rewarded by discovering the look of surprise on their little face when they fall off their perch. #Birds #Edinburgh
