Yes but in this case, all of this happened in El Salvador. The lawyer is Salvadoran and works for a human rights org in the country. She has been critical of Bukele’s mass imprisonment campaign and that’s why she was targeted by him. Similar incidents have happened for years already.

Bukele has been doing things like this ever since he got into power. He strategically goes after human rights advocates and puts blame on them for the gang violence. There are also multiple journalists who have had to flee the country because they exposed Bukele’s ties to criminals. It’s a bad place

One is evading sanctions, the other is operating legitimately.

Anti-natalism should not be anything more than a philosophical exercise. It makes absolutely zero sense, even within the framework of that ideology, to then take the lives of others. The entire idea is that you were born without consent. So why take a life without consent?

Running is certainly an answer. Prioritizing your own safety and health is a very reasonable thing to do. Stopping this administration seems unlikely. It’s not like protesting will do anything to change the course.

I fled and I do not regret it, nor do I feel any shame about it. I don’t particularly hold any loyalty to the country of my birth. But I respect those who wish to stay to fight, even if I think the endeavor is useless.
