I’ve been advocating for a long time to create a Museum of Toronto at Old City Hall, and to open this beautiful and historic building’s doors back to the public. Under the leadership of our museums’ director, Karen Carter, we’re taking steps to turn this dream into reality.

Thanks to tenants from across our city, along with Acorn, FMTA & York South-Weston Tenants Union, we finally got Rentsafe signs and reforming the broken audit system approved at council! It’s time to hold Toronto’s worst landlords accountable for their tenants’ health and safety.

What did happen: I worked with Frankel-Lambert residents and their kids to create a fun and revitalized basketball court for the community. What didn’t happen: I took the shot, it absolutely went in, followed by a victorious slow clap scene right out of a John Hughes movie.

If we make the right choices, there really doesn’t need to be a conflict between protecting the character of a neighborhood and providing Torontonians with more affordable housing options.

Our Super Clinic is model for how I believe government can work best. We’re bringing services from different levels of government together, and making them easily accessible to you - and right in your community!

We’re going to have to do some work on the acronym though.

The arts are the soul of our city and deserve our support. Thank you to Monica Esteves, Executive Director at Canadian Stage, and her entire team, for a remarkable production of Romeo and Juliet in High Park last night. It was truly magical.

At the TTC board meeting today, I asked the acting CEO, Greg Percy, if Metrolinx will handover the Eglinton LRT so that it would be ready to open this September, as they promised. Percy responded that “it would be a stretch” but said that he believes it’ll be sometime this fall.

Each year since 2012, thanks to Karen and Allen Kaeja, local volunteers and sponsors, their Seaton Village community has hosted Porch View Dances. It was such a thrill tonight to watch the beautiful performances, and dance, with such a creative and fun neighbourhood.

I’m proud to be working with the Little Jamaica Community Land Trust to ensure the survival of Black-owned and operated small businesses, support their success, ensure that they can afford to remain on Eglinton, and be able to finally chart their own future.

There’s someone special at a Community Housing Building at 1400 Bathurst who I admire and respect. Her name’s Nonna Rogers. Whether it be Christmas parties for the kids, or organizing summer BBQs, Nonna has fostered a more safe and caring community with a true sense of belonging.

…The centre will feature individual units for survivors and their families from across the province so that they can stay together with the comforts of home and easy access to the hospital. This is a deeply meaningful initiative that I’m proud to be working on.

…McDonald houses, it will be a place for parents, families and burn survivors to have a home away from home while they are receiving treatment at Sunnybrook or Sick Kids…

Hey Superman fans! Joe Shuster, Superman’s co-creator, was a Toronto boy. And because of him, the Daily Planet building was based on the old Toronto Star building on King St. (where the First Canadian Place is now). In fact, our local paper was once called the Toronto Daily Star!

Toronto has so many fun, quirky and interesting idiosyncrasies. They’re some of the many reasons I love this place, and its people, so much.

I didn’t support the City’s snow contracts because they were hastily pushed through council before most anyone had even read them. The contracts evidently didn’t ensure Toronto residents would get the snow clearing needed in the event of a major storm. That’s got to finally change.

Sometimes, if you’re open to it, even the sidewalk can unexpectedly make you smile.

This is Cameika, an operator at 311. She told me today about how much she loves her job, and her passion for helping people. In fact, her energy was contagious! We’re all really fortunate that she’s serving our city. And I just wanted to share how grateful I am to her.
